Video on You Tube

You don't have to be Harry Houdini to get away from the clutches of the cops at the Rossport protests, since it seems their hearts are not in the role of protesting Shell shareholders' interests as much as they once were.

Nice bit of footage.

Yes you've every right to free yourself from any pig who attempts to illegally deprive you of your liberty. Well done for exercising your rights to walk away.

If the footage will show that the cops never informed that gentleman that he was being arrested, or why he was being arrested, then that will be a defence to any accusation of resisting arrest. Which shows the value of video evidence, to counter any lies the cops will spew to the biased ears of Judge Mary Devins, if any such incidents come to court.

The gentleman whose voice we hear on the footage, is asking the right question(s). "Why are you arresting him?" etc. Always ask questions, because their refusal to answer will help you.

But, what is not a good idea is to suggest to the cops what they should be doing like "You have to this, or you're supposed to do that, Garda". No, why give them advice or make suggestions to them? No, just ask them to account for and give reasons for their behaviour etc.

Questions Good. Suggestions Bad.

Video is essential to your protection.

Stay safe boys and girls. You're brave and good people. They are blind that don't see that.

Know your rights indeed.

A good question to have on the tip of the tongue is:
"By what authority are you ordering me to stop / to go / to come?"
(i.e. What law exists to authorise you to restrict my freedom?)

If no answer can be provided, then what authority can there be?

Thanks to Joe Noonan.

This sums up the petty arguments put forward by S2S
Surely if someone breaks into a premises and is illegally trespassing the cops are in their rights to arrest someone... its ridiculous .

you people just want to cause trouble....

Shells cops didn't appear to be bothered about breaking in and tresspass when they participated with one of Shell's contractors in illegaly entering private land(owned by the Mcgrath family of glengad) and breaking locks on gates to gain accsess to a private pier they had no right to use. What made this even worse was that the craft shell intended to secure there turned out to be unlicensed.. But since shell are deemed to be above the law in Erris as has been amply demonstrated by the events of the last year or so this shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone!!

"in illegaly entering private land(owned by the Mcgrath family of glengad) and breaking locks on gates to gain accsess to a private pier they had no right to use."
The Mcgrath family signed the ownership of that pier over to Mayo co,co and gave them a right of access to the pier some years ago.
If I am wrong then why havent they brought legal precedings aginst shell and mayo coco?

the acceptance of the Public Order Act by the trade union movement was probably the greatest act of
betrayal ever perpetrated against trade union members. Any picket or placard can now be deemed illegal on the whim of a garda or figure of authority, with long prison sentences possible for offenders.
The gardai now have more powers than any police force in Europe.
The irony is that the POA was introduced at the behest of a member of the Labour Party (B. Howlin).
