International Primate Day is fast approaching us. Here in Ireland the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) and Irish Anti Vivisection Society (IAVS) are holding a peaceful protest to shine light on animal experiments here in Ireland and around the world and to show that there is alternatives out there!
The use of non-human primates (apes and monkeys) in laboratory research and testing is being hotly debated worldwide.
There is mounting support for a new Written Declaration*, number 40/2007, which calls for an end to the use of Great Apes and wild-caught primates in and asks the European Parliament to set a timetable for phasing out all experiments. The strength of feeling on this issue is shown by the support of almost 300 MEPs (out of 785). ARAN & IAVS have being lobbying hard to Irish MEP’s to sign a written declaration to end the use of primates in experiments – the results? 10 Irish MEPs have signed up to this Declaration with just 3 left to sign!. The aim is to have these commitments included in the revision of the European Directive 86/609EEC governing animal experimentation which is now being revised for the first time in 20 years.
Please join ARAN & IAVS for a peaceful protest against animal testing.
