Ballot begins on 20 August
Classroom workers across Northern Ireland are preparing for a ballot for strike action which if successful will close schools across the country in September and October.
The ballot comes after an attempt by employers to introduce pay cuts for classroom assistants. The attack on pay is part of the ongoing education cuts which have fallen particularly heavily on Special Needs Education. All attempts by the unions to engage in meaningful negotiations have been snubbed by the Education Boards and the Minister for Education.
The employers will receive the legally required notice for the strike ballot on Friday 10 August and the vote will commence on the 20 August.
