Fars Gavily, Eqbal Latifi, Sediq Sobhani, Khaled Savari, Teyeb Mollaei, Teyeb Chatei, Yaddollah Moradi, Sediq Amjadi, Mohioldin Rajabi, Habibollah Kale-kani and Abbas Andriani, 11 worker activists who were arrested on May 1st in Sanandage have been sentenced to 91 days of imprisonment and 10 lashes for taking part in a may 1st demonstration.

This sentence is yet another action by the Islamic Regime to suppress labour movement and intimidate the people of Iran to prevent them from pushing for more rights and freedom. This oppressive and brutal action against worker activists must be categorically condemned by all international labour organisations, human rights and civil rights organisations. We call on all labour and human rights organisations to protest to Islamic Republic of Iran and call for quashing these sentences. A strong international solidarity movement with workers and people of Iran is needed in order to push back the new waves of brutal attack on people of Iran.

The Hands off the People of Iran campaign in Ireland sends a message of solidarity with the 11 jailed workers in Iran. We protest at their incarceration and demand their immediate release. We stand firmly on the side of the people of Iran in their struggle for democratic rights against the Islamic regime. We also stand firmly against any intervention by imperialism in Iran. George Bush and his cronies are the enemies of the Iranian people.

Instead a mass international solidarity movement needs to be built from below. We will do all in our power to aid the struggle to build that movement.

We wish our protest against the current crackdown in Iran and against the imprisonment of the 11 workers to be registered.

Relentless Anti-Iran Propaganda, Led by the US & Israel

Anti-Iran Rhetoric: Vicious Neocon/Zionist Propaganda

Is the new anti-Iran propaganda push aimed at war? or setting the stage for a longterm US presence in Iraq?

Only a charlatan or a fool would suggest that this article is support for Neo-Cons or Zionism. HOPI has made it quite clear that it opposes any US aggression against Iran; however it does not support the Iranian Theocracy. HOPI supports the Iranian Trade Unions in your struhhles against the Iranian Capitalists. HOPI supporters include Noam Chomsky, John Pilger, Ken Loach, Senator David Norris, ISN, WSM. Perhaps you think they are also Neo-Con Zionists ?

This article is a call to suport Iranian Trade Unionists who have been sentenced to be flogged and prison. Their crime? Going on strike.

I seriously query your sanity, because I find it difficult to believe that any rational person (who claims to be anti-imperialist) would oppose solidarity on behalf of workers in conflict with a Capitalist Government.

"The Useful Fools of Empire
Humanitarian Wars and Associated Delusions"

http://www.counterpunch.org/rooij08142007.html

"Human Rights Watch in particular has been a key organization pushing for humanitarian wars, and a proper appreciation of such organizations is necessary to counter their influence."

Be careful what you give your support to in these cryptic times.

Who exactly are the anti-Islamic useful idiots here? The Iranian worker-communism Unity party or the trade unionists about to be imprisoned and flogged? Arguing that the timing is wrong is a bit of a thin argument – Iran isn’t under especial threat at the moment, and the call for solidarity can’t be ignored simply because it came at an inconvenient time for us.

What really is wrong about condemning the Iranian regime for their treatment of workers – especially when the workers themselves ask us to condemn this regime? Surely it’s possible to hold two thoughts in the same head – American aggression should be opposed/solidarity with Iranian workers should be upheld. They aren’t, you’ll find, contradictory thoughts.

Amnesty International (AI) is adding its voice to two global trade union federations in support of the International Day of Action for Mansour Ossanlu and Mahmoud Salehi on 9 August 2007. Together with the International Trade Union Confederation and International Transport Workers Federation, AI is calling for the two men to be released immediately.

Further, all three organisations are calling for any charges that have been levelled against the men in connection with their peaceful and legitimate trades union work to be dropped.

Mansour Ossanlu is head of the Union of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, Mahmoud Salehi is a Spokesperson for the Organisational Committee to Establish Trade Unions and former head of the Saqez Bakers’ Union.

Robert Tait the Guardian/ Observer man in Tehran has seen published a report on the political nature of the public hangings in Iran. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/world/story/0,,2151798,0....html At first glance it lends further weight & credibility to the "PatC line" yet when we recall that Tait's article on the "British embassy tunnel" of just under two weeks ago was flawed by propaganda spin of "old news" ( which I believe I explained here - http://indymedia.ie/article/83489?&condense_comments=fa...04532 ) ..... you could I suppose continue to see two sides to the story.

Carry on Pat. ;-)
