I hope ye organise a family picnic or something afterwards, its a beautiful park and community
resource in the Crumlin and Sundrive area.
The memorial Stone has been occassionally vandalised but is always cleaned up.

Its a nice day out for people to gather and chat afterwards?

Ye should contact Superquinn, one of the difficulties with commeroration is
feeding the kids!
the management at superquinn do tend to donate bakery goods to worthy community causes
and the Park is a wonderful place to let the wee ones loose, it also takes care of baby-sitting problems
as people in groups can mind kids easier than singles and isolated family units.

Gosh, how I wish I could be there! I hope everyone has a wonderful time, and that the memory of this patriot is held in the deepest regard!

Blessings,

Hi Ladies !

Thank You for the advice regarding Superquinn and the kids - I'll have my own two childer with me on the day and , although they have been to dozens of republican and community commemorations/marches/pickets/demonstrations etc , they still get restless (as kids do!) about half-way through !
I like the baby-sitting plan ;-) !

And Susan - I know you'll be there in spirit : I have been reading your excellent contributions on the various 'Tara' threads on this site . You are nearer to Tara than some of the people on this isle are .
Thanks for your comments : much appreciated .

Hi !

The Eamonn Ceannt Commemoration held today , Sunday 19 August 2007 , in Eamonn Ceannt Park in Crumlin , Dublin , was about 30 minutes late in starting due to five Special Branch men who insisted on harassing each of the approximate fifty people present .

A small stage-unit and an amplification system had been set-up at the Memorial Stone inside one of the park entrances and , when they did eventually get there (led by an RSF Colour Party and a contingent from Na Fianna Eireann) the crowd were welcomed by the Chairperson , Tony Kennedy , who introduced himself , and gave a brief history of Eamonn Ceannt and outlined RSF's position in relation to the continuing occupation of this island .

Tony then called on Josephine Hayden , ex-POW , to give the main oration .
A more detailed description of the life of Eamonn Ceannt followed , and those present clapped as Josephine highlighted the political similarities between Ceannt's beliefs and those of Republican Sinn Fein . (The full speech will be carried in the September 2007 edition of the 'Saoirse' newspaper)
The Chairperson took the microphone again and brought proceedings to an end , thanking the RSF Colour Party , Na Fianna , and those in attendance .

Glad you referred to 'this island'. That's the appropriate designation when referring to 'Ireland'. This island should not be referred to as a country as there are two on this island. Good to see that RSF is now following the appropriate nomenclature.

Hi Jason !

You sad little Englander you !

Yes , Jason , Ireland is an island , comprising many peoples but only one country , despite the best efforts of you and your similarly-surnamed friends .
Your time would be better used in seeking to propagate the 'peace-keeping' efforts of your colleagues in Ireland ,Iraq and Afghanistan , to name but three .

Well done to Sinn Féin Poblachtach for organising this commemoration in honour of Éamonn Ceannt.

Éamonn Ceannt was a great Irish patriot and as well as being a member of the Military Council who planned the Easter Rising and a signatory of the ‘Proclamation of the Irish Republic’ he was also a very talented Uileann Piper. Éamonn Ceannt’s talent as a Uileann Piper was recognised on the international stage. In fact, in 1908, Éamonn travelled to Rome and played a selection of Irish airs on his Uileann pipes for Pope Pius X, at the Pope’s request, for his jubilee celebrations.

It is sad that in the year 2007, Éamonn Ceannt’s vision of a united Ireland free from English rule has yet to be realised. I’m sure he would be very disappointed at the present state of affairs, with the six counties still ruled by England and aided & abetted by deluded Irishmen/women.

It was also sad to note on the day that a gang of Irishmen with cameras that were annoyingly hanging around the commemoration and creating a nuisance, felt the need to make snide comments about those who were marching to the park to commemorate Éamonn Ceannt - they should have had more respect for the memory of Éamonn Ceannt, and they would be well advised to keep their mouths shut in future and show a bit of respect to those who are entitled to gather and honour a true Irish patriot!
