When a PhD on the "politics of smell" trended on X recently it exposed how elites use pretentious woke gobbledegook to exclude the people from power, much like previous generations used Latin and Greek, says Steven Tucker.

Solidarity with Jailed anti-Shell Protesters- Picket at Department of Justice, Dublin

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday July 13, 2007 16:37author by Shell to Seaauthor email dublinshelltosea at gmail dot comauthor phone 0871323369 Report this post to the editors

No Justice in Rossport- the Gardaí work for Shell

Supporters of the campaign to have Shell site their refinery offshore and for the Irish govt to secure Irish natural resources for the people showed their solidarity with the three Erris fisherment who have been wrongly jailed. A large group of about forty protesters handed in a short letter (signed by them all) to the minister expressing outrage at the treatment of the three men.

The Gardaí complained that the presence of such as a large group of people at the entrance of the building had health and safety implications, and tried to order those present to move, but it was poined out the health and safety implications of Shell's scheme for Mayo were a much greater threat to us all.

Garda reinforcements arrived and tried to intimidate the protesters, who included some Sinn Féin and Green Party members (as well as members of smaller groups and none), but no one paid any attention to them, since they are widely recognised as simply being used as merceneries for Shell now, their authority is slipping away.

" the protesters, who included some Sinn Féin and Green Party members"

The Greens are having it both ways, aren't they? In the government and, supposedly, against the government. Hypocrites, I would humbly suggest.

Well done to those who turned up in shite weather.

Protesters blockade Shell refinery

Shell to Sea campaigners have set up a blockade and halted traffic on the road between Belmullet and Ballycastle in Co Mayo.

Two men have chained themselves to a van on the road leading to the proposed gas refinery site at Bellanaboy.

Trucks working on the site have been unable to gain access to it since shortly after 9am. The fire brigade from Bellmullet has been called to try and untie the men.

The campaigners want Shell to refine gas from the Corrib gas field at sea rather than at Bellanaboy.

"It is vital for the preservation of Erris and the protection of its people that all work on this destructive and exploitative project be stopped immediately. Despite a contemptible strategy by the authorities that either ignores or maliciously persecutes those opposing the project, residents remain resolute in their opposition," said spokesperson John Monaghan

The Cork branch of the Shell to Sea campaign has travelled to Mayo today to "show solidarity" for the three Mayo protesters who were convicted of assault on gardaí.

Cork Shell to Sea spokesman Ray Hanrahan said: "While the State considers the assault of gardaí a serious criminal offence, neither the government nor the judiciary have any qualms about the violence, intimidation and lawless brutality they've unleashed upon the brave people of north-west Mayo."

The Dublin branch of Shell to Sea are holding a protest outside the Department of Justice this afternoon and will hold a rally on O'Connell Street to raise public awareness of the campaign.

The judge that passed the outragious jail sentences is Judge Mary Devins, wife of Sligo TD and now Junior Minister Jimmy Devins. She is a political appointment to the courts and was clearly acting under instructions from Bertie Ahern. We should stop kidding ourselves about Ahern and realise we have a scheming two bit politician on our hands whose every move is in the interests of the golden circle. You are not going to get justice here because Shell have bought and paid for the lot of these lackeys long ago.

Greens should not be welcome on these protests. They are in Government. The Government have got the power to nationalise Shell and throw them out of Ireland. Greens will not do this. The Greens won't be even getting minor reforms such as refining at sea. Greens have sold out and should not be welcome. If you are a Green Party member and you support the camapign then leave that Party and stop supporting hospital, co-location, M3 distruction, nuclear power, privatising power production, FF senators, etc, etc.
