Bush wants to close Guantamo

GW Bush said today that he wants guantanamo Bay to close as soon as possible. 'The president does not want to be the world's jailer,' according do Dana Perino the deputy press secretary for the Whitehouse.

A few weeks ago, shortly after the Council of Europe declared that illegal prisons had been set up in Europe to facilitate rendition, Colin Powell jumped on the old bandwagon and called for the closure of Guantanamo.

Nobody's willing to put a date on this closure. But the pressure's mounting. The day after Powell did his song and dance routine, it was decided by the US federal appeals court that those suspected of terrorist goals who were resident in the US could not be held indefinitely without charge or trial on American soil. There are still around 400 inmates held illegally in Guantanamo, the US spin-machine is talking of moving the few inmates it has from Afghanistan back to newly refurbished prisons in Afghanistan.

Bush will never be just known as 'the world's jailer,' he's so much more.
