Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6Why does Michael Y persist in claiming that he speaks for the IPSC? He has IPSC after his name despite being asked to refrain from doing so.
The majority of the IPSC are reasonable people, they accept that people have the right to disagree with them and yet still support the Palestinian people.
The IPSC do not believe that socialists who criticise Hamas are Islamophobes.
Why does Dorothy Gale persist in trying to derail the debate about Palestine by personalising 'issues' rather than responding to the questions posed by the article. To denote that I am a member of the IPSC does not signal to anyone that I speak on behalf of the IPSC!! Period.....equally when DG posts articles from the CWI or the Socialist Party does not make him/her a spokesperson for those organisations!! And, surely you're not going to deny that there is a serious trend of islamophobia in sections of the 'progressive' movement.
Michael Warschavski's article was circulated this morning in the IPSC bulletin - so whoever you are DG, argue the political analysis of the article and leave personal provocations aside.....we are indeed reasonable people in the IPSC but, gender aside, we also recognise a messer when we see one.
If you accept that you dont speak for the IPSC then why put their initials after your name? I dont put any initials after my name. I speak for myself. But I clarified with the IPSC that you dont speak for them.
If I criticise Catholicism does that make me a Catholic Phobe? I believe in seperation of Church and State and therefore I am an implacable foe of any Religious parties.
Supporting womens rights, LGBT rights, supporting Sercularism: does that make me an Islamophobe?
Disagreeing with you is not a personal provocation.
The Indymedia space entitled 'Organisation' says: The organisation to which the author belongs to (if any). And if you click the ? it continues: "It is often useful to let people know of any significant political or organisational affiliations that you may have in a debate.". So much for that.
Then you ask: "Supporting womens rights, LGBT rights, supporting Sercularism: does that make me an Islamophobe?" No, of course, it doesn't!! But then nobody that I know said that you are an Islamophobe!! If they have, please direct your comments to that direction......
However, there is a significant trend in Europe, and in Ireland, among the right but which also percolates among the progressives, that tends to denigrate the political achievements of organisations, of national liberation movements, of Muslim origin.....the case of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine are two examples.
We had this unprecedented attack on the iawm a few months ago, when we invited a leading member of Hezbollah to come and talk to us....the same nonsense goes when people from the 'left' talk of Hamas, regurgitating fundamentalist arguments from Fox, from Sky, from Bush and Blair.....to criticise a political organisation for its practice, for what it does is part and parcel of what we are. However, to denigrate them because they are not 'secular', because their members may go to a mosque every Friday is akin to me developing a theory that Liz O'Donnell or Tom Parlon lost their seats because they're seen in churches every Sunday!! That theory would not get very far.
On a more serious note some of us in the IPSC and iawm have very serious problems with some of that stuff from the CWI you have been peddling.....but that's a debate for another day.
An excellent article from MediaBite entitled !The Enemy Without - Palestine and Democracy!

Michael has been asked to stop posting on Indymedia with IPSC after his name.
He is not and should not be regarded as any sort of spokesperson for the IPSC.
