The New Scientific Priesthood Wants Complete Control of What We Are Told Wed Dec 18, 2024 13:32 | Dr David McGrogan
The ambition of elites to "manage the infodemic" amounts to the establishment of a scientific priesthood that wants full control of what we are told to ensure we only come to approved conclusions, says Dr David McGrogan.

China Cancels Christmas in Hong Kong ? Leaving Churches Fearing for Their Future Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:22 | John MacNab
China has cancelled Christmas in Hong Kong this year. Officials have ordered that the usual celebrations be 'toned down'. It's part of a creeping intolerance that leaves churches fearing for the future, says John MacNab.

Hi pedant !
I think perhaps that is obvious from the inclusion of the 'Saoirse' newspaper in the photograph and the link to the RSF website in the article .
But thanks anyway !
Sharon .
pedant, could just as easily have said that this event is the Republican commemoration.
He was Theobald Tone, middle name Wolfe. When did we start calling him Wolfe Tone, anyone?
Hi 'Another pedant' !
I have no answer to your question , 'AP' , but you did get me thinking of how fitting the name 'Theobald' was to the man -
http://www.behindthename.com/php/view.php?name=theobald
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Theobald
....almost as if his parents knew what was to follow!
Sharon.
pedant, you could as easily had said that this is the Republican commemoration of Tone.
Hi !
The main oration will be delivered by Cathleen Knowles McGuirk * .
Also , please note that the bus will be leaving Sallins on its return journey to Dublin at 5.30pm , not 5.45pm as originally stated .
Thanks!
Sharon.

Cathleen Knowles McGuirk.
Hi !
The annual Wolfe Tone Commemoration was held on Sunday , 10 June last , in Bodenstown , Co. Kildare : a well-organised assembly of between 277 and 477* people formed-up in blazing heat (between 25 and 28 degrees!) in Sallins Village and , as per the instructions issued by Chief Marshall Seosamh Ó Maoileoin , the crowd fell-in behind the Piper (an Antrim man who knew his business!) and the Colour Party , comprising members of Na Fianna Eireann and Cumann na mBan . A second Colour Party , comprising members of the Republican Movement from Dublin , Donegal and Wexford , was also at the front of the Parade .
(*27 of whom were Special Branch ['Security and Intelligence' division] members)
Indeed , such was the heat on the day that the Dublin bus overheated in the traffic-jam on the way into the village , and at least three members of the various Colour Parties came close to passing out , but were 'revived' in time by one of the many water carriers!
The level of Special Branch harassment was not only unbelievable , but was totally uncalled for : one of their number stated that 'his men' had been ordered to obtain the name and address of every single participant at the event - one man , a native Irish speaker , was handcuffed for refusing to give his details in English , and an 84-year-old woman was threatened with arrest for being 'unco-operative' . Three Special Branch cars and their passengers were at the cemetery , three other cars and their passengers stayed in the village and at least three other full Special Branch vehicles were parked on the outskirts of the village . "Agressive" was the word most used to describe their behaviour .
The proceedings in the cemetery were chaired by Tomás Ó Curraoin, Peig Galligan from the National Graves Association reminded the hundreds of people listening of the deeds of Republican women through the years (and today!) , Sean Scott (Brokeborough Raid) was one of those that laid a wreath and the main oration was delivered by Cathleen Knowles McGuirk .
A full report and more photographs will be published in the July issue of 'Saoirse' , which will be published on the fourth of that month .
Go raibh máith agat !
Sharon.

A lot less sunglasses this year - I hope you suffered less of the usual harassment. It seems like yiz had a good day out.
Hi 'Smiley' !
Sunglasses would have protected the eyes : a good few people there had brought umbrellas with them to shade their hands , necks etc from the burning sun , which on occasion reached temperatures near 30 degrees .
Special Branch harassment was heavier this year than on previous Commemoration days - perhaps it was the fact that they were in Kildare rather than on a beach kicking sand on people that made them so aggressive.....
But it was a "good day out" .
Well worth the punishing heat !
Sharon.
