Yep, this guy needs all the solidarity we can muster. I went into RTE1 today and did an interview for the 1 a.m. show on background of the drect action movement in OZ against detaining refugees, the nature of these isolated private corp run detention centres, ther cynical use of the issue to get the Howard Govt. re- elected etc. etc. Looks like they ran outta time on the radio show and didn't play it.
If I can be of any help around this case get in contact - Ph. 087-918-4552...I'm based in Dublin
-was locked up in Woomera town in '84
-my father worked on the rocket range there in the '50's/near where the Brits were testing nuclear weapons (it's extremely isolated geographically)
- I spent 9 months in a Texas jail run by CCA who are running Woomera
- was involved in the Sanctuary movement in Oz in the '90s that had 10,000 folks sign a declaration saying they would hide East Timorese refugees resisting deportation...this was very successful in stopping the government
-I was in OZ last year and connected with the direct action movement against detention.
****these folks are the first to be arrested and face serious charges (max 10 years)...there are hundreds of folks breaking these laws and involved in hiding escaped refugees....the govt are looking for a scapegoat/example to be made etc etc

There is more info about the denial of bail to Jonathon O'Shea on the Melbourne indymedia site......
the rasons for denying him bail and not transferring him to Adelaide a way dodgy...
