Fourteen women from Erris, Cork, Dublin and the Solidarity Camp gained access to Shell proposed refinery site at Bellanaboy yesterday morning, Friday the 13th April, in an attempt to shut the site down. The women marched up to the inner compond of the site carrying a banner emblazoned: greed kills, send shell to sea. Security rapidly notified the Gardai who arrived in a van. Some of the women remained on the site until 4pm before leaving of their own accord, others gained access to the inner part of the site, causing work to be stopped temporarily, before being escourted off site by the Gardai.

Great photos Eve!! - Good to see people can still access the site and in some way monitor wants going on in the absence of interest from state bodies like the EPA, Mayo Co.Co. , fisheries etc. who have completly abdicated their reponsibilties to the people of Erris.

& good to see them keeping the pressure on Shell & their toadies - no promised jobs can justify or compensate for the danger & ruination of the environment at Bellanaboy. Any1 in doubt, just consult Shell's record on human rights & the environment.
They've even, disgracefully, taken away the cross & memorial placard to Ken Saro-Wiwa, from the Bellanaboy road.

its nice to see the women campaigners out there, we all know that you
have been supporting and fighting really hard for years now- but a lot
of the emphasis, political rows and etc have been on the five men,

(who also did and do a good job)

However- destruction of land and community effects all of us and the
women's voice needs hearing too.

Solidarity and well done!

I notice that the old "climbable" gate is strewn to the side of the NEW green spikey fence. I can only assume the Green spikey one will soon be strewn to the side of a razor wired concrete wall. Maybe we will send shell to prison after all!

Fare play to Women!
