![]() "Stand back lads I'll sort this out" While browsing youtube I came across this video of a garda I recognise from several protests I've been to throwing his weight around and escalating what was already a bad situation outside Bad Bob's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbWgM9NvTik |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3The behaviour of the drunks is somewhat understandable that's what drunks do but that garda doesnt seem to have had one day of training in his life.
Well man if you were a Guard in that situation how would you suggest you would/could have handled the situation better?
I've often seen Guards standing back in this kind of situation and letting it die down of it's own accord- meanwhile other bystanders would be giving out shit to them for doing nothing while skulls are being cracked and bones broken etc.
There's something slightly pathetic in the high-pitched, gleeful narration of the person that shot the film. It's an almost sexual, sadistic excitement enhanced by outrage at the challenging of authority (in the person of the garda).
I can't see what else the garda could have done in the situation ... from their perspective there was a physical confrontation taking place between two drunken people and it wasn't clear if the other drunks were up to handling the situation.
I do think the film-maker exposed a rather weird enjoyment of seeing the punishment of transgressors though.
