The level of support for the camapign has gone up enormously since Friday. The display of naked aggression by the police has shown the truth of the situation to a mass audience, and the people of Ireland are smart enough to see that the government's priority is imposing Shell law on the roads of north west Mayo, and not fighting crime, corruption, social exclusion or poor services for the weakest in society.
On Friday there were checkpoints on every road leading to Bellanaboy. Yet last week there was a brutal sexual assault on a young woman in Dublin City Centre, and it turned out there was no police presence in the area at all.
Even an O'Reilly newspaper like the Irish Mirror can see the contradiction, and in its leader article yesterday it wondered if people in housing estates blighted by violent crime must be wishing that they lived somewhere that Shell cared about, because then they might have access to police resources.
This picket at a Shell station in the United States could be the start of a new phase of American support for the people of Erris. It seems that the wider public outside of Ireland are realising what is happening too. Please post pictures as soon as you have them.
Visitors from the US are welcome, and anyone who wants campaign material which can be mailed only has to send an email to dublinshelltosea@gmail.com and we'll send you stickers, posters, badges, and anything else we can think of. You can of course make your own by downloading images from here.
Of course we need money to pay for this, so please feel free to send financial contributions to Shell to Sea, c/o 134 Phibsborough Road, Dublin 7, Ireland. Checks should be made out to Dublin Rossport Support. We'll sort out a PayPal account in the next little while.
Thanks again for the support.
