Wednesday morning: Blockades continue at the Bellanaboy terminal site

category mayo | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday October 11, 2006 10:02author by xtic - Shell to Sea

This morning 150 people have been blockading the bridge on the Bangor road despite the appaling weather. Constuction traffic has been delayed for 15 minutes.

Before being forcibly removed from the bridge the protestors got up and started walking slowly towards the terminal site. At this stage the cops started getting rough and trampelled one woman on the ground.

At the time of posting, the protestors are using divertionary tactics, splitting up and reforming again along the road.

The cops are becoming increasingly confused and frustrated.

There is an urgent call out in place for people to get over to Erris to support the blockades. For those in Dublin who can't make it, there will be a large protest at Corrib House on the corner of Leeson Street (at the canal end) at 13.00 this afternoon.

As of 09.30, protestors continue to block construction traffic heading for the terminal. Sgt O'Reilly appears to have kept his cool this morning, urging other cops to take it easy.

Meanwhile at Cork airport, members of Shell to Sea have been blockading the entrance to the Shell depot since the early hours. The guards and their cousins the airport police have turned back several tankers bearing the Shell logo. More details to follow.

Shell is not paying any tax in this country, so why did the government give them 170 cops for a month, when other parts of the country are almost lawless? Serious criminals running amok in our cities, while eco-terrorist corporations are treated like monarchs in Erris.

Sorry, the question is not WHY the government did it, we know why, but how can we let them get away with it.

Another excellent little video from the Revolt Video team!
great stuff.

Some suggestions...

1) put it on YouTube (oops! already did that I see) and also suggest that people use VLC for their video player for downloaded material ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ )

2) Obviously there is a script that is being read, transcribe the short speeches in the video as well and upload the text at http://translations.indymedia.org and ask for translations. There is software available for Mac and I'm sure PC that makes it somewhat easy to do subtitling.

Spread the campaign out beyond Ireland by using subtitles on the video.

3) BitTorrent it as well, use the best activist & documentary oriented torrent trackers at:
http://www.sonofshun.com
http://www.mvgroup.org
http://conspiracycentral.net
http://www.media-underground.net
http://www.chomskytorrents.org
and
http://www.chomskytorrents.org
[ is it not strange that http://video.indymedia.org does not offer torrents of videos while radio.indymedia.org does?! ]

4) every time you upload one of these things, provide a link to the previous video you did.

5) Create a announcement only mailing list to announce each new video and direct the recipients back to indymedia.ie to add comments and thoughts.

Again, congrats to all involved in making this video.

ex-pioneer and i will be having a party this Saturday in Budapest and perhaps we will stop things for a few minutes and show this video and try to explain the Rossport/Shell story. One reason this video works well, imo, is that it is a good intro to the subject. I'll also burn a bunch of CDs with this video to hand out to people on this side of EUroLand.

thx again

Good to finally see the reality of what's happening up there. God knows it isn't being broadcast on TV. Here's a link to our video with the background of the case:

good video - and seeing as how its up on global indy vid site, having the voiceover at the start introducing the issue and giving it a bit of background is excellent. BUT - whats with the music all the way through it? fair enough at the start to give it a bit of an 'oirish' feel, but when the footage from the garda removing the protesters comes in, there's a load of horrible wailing by the vocalist... it would have been better to hear the people's voices and the reactions to being forcibly removed from the road. i'm not saying revolt should be trying to be like the RTE news but not every report/piece has to view like a sub punk trad music video either. the footage and the protests themselves are atmospheric enough, you dont hear music in the background in real life when all this is happening!!

The vid that is up is a rough edit a longer version up soon,As our gear is not the best sound is an issue. Please if anyone would like to donate better gear please do !
Also the footage was shot at very low light and had to be enhanced hence quality.
Thanks for the feedback.

Have to admit we like that song ,thanks to Lynched for soundtrack.

Would you people ever go home and let the workers do their job, It any of you ever had a job you might appreciate this. Instead of getting a job you are quite happy to sponge off the state!
Considering all the opposition you people have to our State and its authorities how come we don’t hear any of you refusing to except your dole payments from the State

Most people at the protest disperse between 9 and 10am to go to their places of work. The remainder consists of shift workers, farmers, home-workers and self employed people etc who happen to have some free time to defend their community agaist Shell and their state thugs.

Please keep your lazy pig-ignorant comments to yourself in future or even better, get some education and learn to differenciate between fact and fiction!!!
