and his friends... but is'nt that what friends are for?
Now I know what they meant by 'The Bertie Bowl'
At present I think people should concentrate resources on highlighting the Rossport protest.
Not that I think Bertie should get away with this. It's sickening to hear media hacks arguing that Bertie was right to accept, and not declare, gifts from people who were in a position to benefit from government policies when he was Minister for Finance. Also that he would need such financial assistance at all. He was providing for his family, not being bankrupt, and I do not accept that a government minister is not paid enough to fulfil such obligations.
At the same time, pressure could and should be put on Bertie for his part in the Shell disgrace, and it's time he was made responsible for his role in that, which is much worse than this present situation. The people of Rossport need our support.
And whats the alternative? Enda Kenny? He would do all the bad things FF have done, plus lower the status of the Irish language.
The ratio between the top 20% of earners and lowest 20% across Europe is 4.4 to 1 . The ratio in Ireland is 4.5 to 1. Ireland is therefore about the average for Europe. It is impossible to control or prevent people from making money. If some people earn more than others, good luck to them. Equality is an impossible dream because, for example: you'll always have those who use their money wisely, and those who'll spend the day in the pub and then wonder why they can't afford a proper education for their children. Society is made up of all sorts. But , I agree on the Bertie issue. He is compromised. It's not really a hanging offence but it's the beginning of the end for him.
get rid of bertie then what, have brian cowen take over?...get in the swp? You're deluded and naieve if you think that getting rid of bertie is the answer to any of the problems you've outlined.
Thai coup style?
How can the increase in the price of gas and energy in Ireland be due to the governments 'giveaway to Shell' when the amount of gas and energy produced by Shell in Ireland currently amounts to zero? We currently import virtually all our gas and energy from abroad. The price is set in the London and New York petroleum exchanges where producers and purchasers trade petroleum and related products. The increase in the price in the past few years and the fall in the past few months are worldwide phenomena that are totally unrelated to anything that happens in Ireland and wouldn't be affected in the slightest should Ireland even cease to exist. I know that socialists are economically illiterate but try not to make it so obvious.
