The tree walk crew is gathering to bring about a journey form the source of the Shannon to the ocean.
We will be canoing,carrying all we need,camping out,linking up river communites,using human power,travelling an ancient route,free of cars,full of life. We will be planting native broadleaf trees,heratige apple trees and hope .
the Shannon inspires many,nurtures and has and will be a source of energy and water for us all far into the future.
On October 14th/15th06 there will be a kyayk building workshop.these boats will carry us on our journey.they will be made from local sourced wood and materials,under the guidance of a traditional boat builder. over the weekend we will work, cook, and rest together.there will be a cahnce to become informed about the journey,the treewalk's and share our ideas and visions for such an undertaking.
Next Spring the TreeWalk hopes to travel the river Shannon from its source to its arrival in the ocean.
This journey will almost span the length of the island.we will as always carry all we need with us.Plant trees with communities and any one along the way. our trees will be broadleaf and native heritage varieties of apple trees. We will journey in canoes and kyayaks for the most part,leaving the river on foot to meet communities and plant trees.
The river Shannon inspires,nurtures,provides energy and water for many .

Also,on Ocotber 14th/15th we will be building our canvas kyaykas in a workshop guided by an experienced boat builder,using locally sourced wood. We will be gathering in the evenings for meals(shared food) and chat. Over this weekednd all participaing will have a chance to introduce themselves and any ideas or visions they want to share within the Shannon journey.
Floor space is available in a comfortable home and camping space is abundant over the weekend.
We have to cover costs of materials ourselves,so if you can afford to contribute to the cost of the boat building workshop,you may do so. it will be appreciated.
