Its been going on for two weeks.
Nineteen Nigerian men have been hunger-striking in the Westwood Court
hostel in Tralee Town centre for a period of two weeks. local reports say
that the hunger-strike was postponed at one stage but is back on.
The Kerryman and the Kingdom have published interviews with the men
over the period.
They are protesting at the conditions which they say are inhumane. This includes
the refusal of the authorities in the hostel to allow family visits or guests in their
rooms and bad food. The stipend given to the men is well known, because it
is the same given to other applicants for asylum/refugees.
If anyone in the area can offer solidarity and bring a camera, it would be useful.
The hostel is located opposite The Abbey Inn Public House, which is
near the re-modelled Square in the town centre.
Looking for info from the local papers , will update.
