Bob Doyle- author of the recent memoirs, Brigadista, and the last Irish veteran of the International Brigades in the Spanish civil war - recently completed a 4 city Irish tour.
As Bob said, he was not really there to promote his memoirs, or to relive history, he was there to act as a spur to get young people and workers into action against the war in Iraq, against globalisation, etc.
Would anyone at the 4 meetings please send in reports?
Belfast had 200 squeezed into the John Hewitt where Bob spoke and then unveiled a plaque to the anti-fascist volunteers.
Relatives of 12 other Irish volunteers attended (as did the son of 1 scottish vol.)
Bobs Belfast speech can be viewed at -
