Ten days down.
Four to go...
After ten days on the road with sore feet but high spirits the Long Walkers arrived in Mulingar last night.
With 261km down the walkers are now only four days walk away from the capital. The walk will reach the city centre on Saturday 12th with the last leg starting off from Kilmainham jail at 12pm.
The walk from Rossport to Dublin has so far seen walkers making their way across Mayo, Roscommon, Longford and Westmeath greeted by waves, hoots and shouts of support and "fair play" from motorists and pedestrians alike.

We are festooned with Green Posters proclaiming the walk- cool. The poster -ban, is I hope a
bad memory. The first ones I see are Rossport and in Camden Street too.
(And none have been ripped down, though there are a couple of very wet ones
sliding down the lamposts!!!!!).
Hearty congrats all concerned. I did the Straide-Charlestown section but the annoying propensity of my feet to blister put a halt to any further trekking. Despite that I was thouroughly amazed by the amount of support we got!! - To read some sections of the media you'd think were out on a lonely limb and the whole country agrees with Shells/ Irish governents GUBUesque project. Its a credit to ShelltoSea's campaign that people see through the official lies and spin being propogated by Shell, Mr Dempsey etc. and their many media apologists.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good luck, well done, keep it up.
and THANK YOU. without people like yourselves ireland would be sold wholesale to the lowest bidder!
Sorry Chris the poster ban is far from a bad memory, the posters in Camden St and Rathmines were taken down the following day. Likewise in the city centre they stayed up a few hours max. I wrote to the Deputy Lord Mayor about this, as they are violating the vote of elected councillors, as per May 22nd vote at DCC. The DLL is a Labour guy, cant think of his name at the moment,. O' Riordain I think, didnt even get a reply. ! But we always said this issue would require "eternal vigilance" now that have we policy on our side as well as law we will have to go about getting it enforced.
The real issue here is totally political, the core concerns of govt are alternative and accurate information re the Corrib gas field and Shell and alternative information re the slaughter in the middle east and our effective complicit role in same. Same old, same old story, information wars, the less the punters know, the less govt will be impacted upon.
Hopefully the boys in Green and Red can prove just as resiliant tomoorow!!! - Once again well done all concerned!!!
Well done to everyone who took part wasn't there myself but commend everyone who was. It nice to see a bit of community spirit for a worthwhile cause!
