The Stozan Sundries - A group exhibition

From August 16th to 19th 2006, a fresh new art collective, The Stozan Sundries will be holding its first exhibition at FilmBase, Curved Street, Temple Bar. Admission is free.

There will be live performances (sound-art, text piece, group-art) for the opening at 6pm on Thursday 17th August 2006 and again on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August.

The Stozan Sundries was dreamt up by a group of NCAD students after an unexpectedly successful end-of-year exhibition in June, with many of them selling work. After the realisation set in that opportunities for emerging artists are few and far between, they decided to set up their own springboard. The word quickly got around and other emerging artists queued up to join their ranks. With the group now 20-strong, there's a mixed bag of disciplines representing painting, ceramics, animation, drama, and sound.

Says one of the founding members Ciara McMahon, "We're delighted and surprised by the overwhelming amount of interest and support. The idea is to provide a starting platform for emerging artists, which is free from the pressure of the commercial art gallery circuit.”
She continues, "Our troupe covers most of the artistic specialities, allowing for cross fertilisation of ideas. As we are largely exhibition virgins, our first public show is bound to be daunting, but being a group we can offer each other the necessary support and, more importantly, we can have a laugh in the process"

Congratulation everyone. Hope to get back tomorrow Sunday as I couldn't stay long enough to see everything today.
Loved the piece about sleepless night.
