The Mayor of New York has sensationally cancelled his visit to Ballymote tomorrow.
Michael Bloomberg was due there tomorrow afternoon to officially unveil a monument to Brigadier General Michael Corcoran, leader of the Fighting 69th Regiment which fought in the American Civil War.
Mayor Bloomberg has been forced to remain in New York to oversee a crisis in Staten Island where widespread power cuts have occurred, leading to fears over the saftety of elderly residents there.
A massive security operation had been put in place for the Mayor's visit, as well as widespread traffic diversions.
The Mayor had been due to fly into Ireland tomorrow morning for meeting with members of the Government.
Awwwwwww! - The government and the guards etc. must be devasted at a lost oppurtunity to brown nose the rich and powerfull, particualry from across the pond!!!
Bloombergs visit has only been postponed. It will be re-scheduled.
The people of a working class area of Queens were a week without electricity, due to a power failure. Although regulated publicly, the power company, Con Ed, is privately owned. The power stoppages have occurred because capital investments in infrastructure have not been made. The pursuit of profit by a private monopoly is the basic cause of the power failure. To the consternation of many, throughout the outage Bloomberg praised the company for their efforts. It took him days before he visited the affected area. Even fellow Republcan, Rudy Giuliani criticized Con Ed. Another outage
on Staten island last night was a little much.
Bloomberg, having put his foot in his mouth, is trying to regain lost ground. So he decided now is not a good time to be out of New York
His comments during this crisis echo his anti-working class remarks during the transit strike last December. He called the Transport Workers Union,-a union founded by IRA man MIke Quill on the industrial union principles of James Connolly,- thugs. Roger Toussaint, President of the TWU was jailed. The union is still without a contract despite New York City having a huge budget surplus.
James Gralton was a comrade of Mike Quill in their struggle for working class dignity. When Bloomberg visits, the people of Sligo-Leitrim should let him know that jailing the leader of the TWU is not the way to celebrate the contributions of working class people to U.S progress.
The union is still without a contract despite New York City having a huge budget surplus. - and thats because the Union voted NOT to accept the contract, hardly Mr.Bloombergs fault lad.
Yes, it was re-scheduled & You Cowards didnt do anything, No surprises there. your total Bollocks lickers. I'd stand with those Grand men anyday, you disgust me.
