Gen Z is hooked on Klarna, says Mary Gilleece ? the seductive app that uses 'Buy Now Pay Later' to let users splash out with money they don't have. It's a debt-fuelled disaster waiting to happen.

What a fantastic weekend. Seemed to be well over a hundred people there. Perhaps someone else can put a number on it?
This camp is in a much better location than the last one, situated as it is behind the dunes on Glengad Beach. It gives visitors a better idea of the natural beauty of the area and what could be lost if Shell get their way. Many of us didn't want to leave, some stayed - the rest of us dragged our tired and sunburnt bods back on to the coach for the return trip to Dublin.
Funny moment on the way back when the driver made a rest stop just outside of Ballina. He pulled in to a Shell station, opened the door and waited - nobody got off. The look on the faces of the passengers ranged from shock to bemusement and confusion. Sitting behind the driver, I had a word in his ear about our boycott. Mortified he drove on, apologising all the way. No harm done.
Many thanks to the WSM who organised the bus and to McGraths Coaches for doing the driving.

Grassroots or Dublin Shell to Sea who organised the bus. Sorry bout that, Mea Culpa. Step forward and take the praise whoever it was. The photographs don't do justice to the beauty of the area, but I'll try anyway...

At the other end of the beach we found evidence of Shell's vandalism. While illegally widening a road they caused the partial collapse of a section of cliff face. A supposedly protected area where birds nest. After the destruction, local people heard the birds crying all night as they searched for their missing nests.

Treasa Ni Ghearraigh and the bolivia situation
audio file 1 - enough!
Rossport woman Treasa Ni Ghearraigh tells us her views about the similarity between what is going on in Ireland and Bolivia after watching the film "Bolivia is not for sale", which documented the changes over the last decade in Bolivia -
her message to Bolivia in Gaeilge (the traditional language of Ireland that is still used in parts of the country and been revived in others) :
"Coinnigh suas an oidhreacht agus le cunamh Dé, ta tiocfaidh an taru ceart as an oidhearacht"
"keep up the effort, unity is power, enough, hopefully we will suceed"

found a recent audio file that relates very much to the discussions that happened last saturday: "The United States is Terrified" - Noam Chomsky on Latin America's Move Towards "Independence and Integration"
audio is from democracy now and there is also a rush transcript:
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/06/06/1337219
"Venezuela became by 1928 the leading oil exporter in the world. It’s remained very high. Venezuela is now going towards independence, and the United States is frantic. That's why you have this hysteria about Chavez. It’s not because he's attacking anyone or anything like. It's hysteria because he's not following orders. It’s kind of like Serbia, but much more serious, because this is a big energy producer. "
