The return of Ireland's Celtic Goddess at Tara

category meath | history and heritage | press release author Saturday June 03, 2006 02:58author by Con Connor - Ireland's Druidschool Report this post to the editors

Edain Echraidhe is her name

Edain Echraidhe is her Gaelic name; her home is the high valley between the hills of Tara and Skryne in the Royal City of Celtic Ireland. This high valley holds a sacred stream called the Gabhra (pronounced gow-ra), which means the white mare. The Gabhra Valley was free range for the White Mare of our Celtic ancestors who came from northern Spain. In Cymru (Wales), she is called Rhiannon, and the Celts of Gaul (France) called her Epona and in a chalk hill in Oxford (England) many people today say that the giant image of the Uffington Horse is a Celtic Horse Goddess.

For a long time the name and home of Edain Echraidhe was hidden from her people by the scribes of the church of fear. A forced double troll motorway is proposed by the governance to destroy and build over the Gabhra stream that was a sacred expression of the Goddess for our ancestors. This has brought many eyes to see the beauty of Tara. The Gabhra shared her secret and the story of 'Opus Dei in Tara Valley' assembles itself. Edain Echraidhe has re-connected with her people again. Now that Edain Echraidhe has returned to our attention; may she gather to her the desire dreaming of her people from over the whole world to shatter the illusions and reveal the Light.

Tara's Celtic Goddess Dreaming
- a suggested midnight visualisation located in the high valley of Tara -

"Tall leafy trees behind a Lady in White sitting on a White Mare; she leans forward offering a branch of thirteen leaves to three Celtic Women who open their hands to receive and reflect the old ways again. Eight Celtic Men form a semi circle around the three Celtic Women facing the Horse Goddess who emits a gentle white Light. Peace and Calm. Then, the neighing of a wild horse and the thunder of many hooves and the White Mare lifts her head to the gallop responding to the call to run free in the sacred valley... The 'Three Ladies and the Eight Men' of Tara step back enraptured in the graceful movement of the herd. This Fairy Host gallops along the entire Valley of the White Mare and down to the River of the Cow Goddess and back again, no fences or gates - just lush rolling grasslands edged by forest and overlooked by Rath Lugh and Rath Miles. Their free raw energy bursts through the mask of illusions every night at midnight. Light and freshness evolves in their space."

Tara has provided a physical focus for our identity as a nation for over two thousand years. The thought of Tara has given strenght to Irish patriots though the darkness of the British Empire. During the worst part of the Tan War, Dan Breen, recovering from multiple bullit wounds, stood on the hill of Tara and felt its power, the thought pressed into his mind that the Irish people were not destined to be a nation of slaves. It's little wonder that the 26 county free state that the British Empire established to castrate the Irish Revolution want to run a motorway over this sacred place.

This sort of stuff is just like what Heinrich Himmler was banging on about - the chosen people were the Aryans rather than the Jews - so he tried to resurrect some made up fantasy about the Teutons and Odin and obscure references to the Knights Templar and the Spear of Destiny - a mixture of the crudest Hegelianism and the occult - the former chicken farmer built an elaborate pseudo-Gothic castle with a central chamber where the Blood order of the SS would cross swords pledging to be rule the Third Reich for a thousand years.

This Celtic Goddess your talking about is like something dreampt up by theosophists who dug up Tara looking the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant.

Pure kitsch - great for Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings type myths - not for reality.

Who is saying anything about chosen people? We are taking about a people maintaining their dignity and sense of identity and not allowing a gang of neo liberal hooligans to run a moter way over the most important cultural site in Ireland. Particularly when there is a more direct route for the motorway. Its when people forget who they are that groups like the Nazis can take advantage of their confusion.

In fact building fake gothic castles and building a motorway over an ancient religious and cultural site are basicly the same act - imposing a fake modern idealogy on an ancient signifier - in the case of the nazis to appropriate the ancient signifier, and in the case of the Irish free state neo-liberals to eradicate it.

It seems that some people are trying to transfer the methods of the Catholic church to Celtic Druidism. I think this is a big mistake. I have not and would not ask anyone at any time to worship anything. I do honour and acknowledge the eternally creative consciousness in God and Goddess forms but never worship. The transfer of worship from a religious practice (Christianity) to a spiritual path (Druidism) which would honour unseen energies is a sign that some fools still believe the earth is round becaue the church said so.
I cant wake up the sleeping from their nightmares and I cant be bothered to prove the earth is almost round. It is round you know. I hope that more and more people step out of the little box allowed to them and look around and actually see whats going on. Fascism is rampant and its devotees are everywhere usually shouting and demanding and completely missing the point of a perfectly good incarnation. Its about the choices you make (if you are allowed to make choices). The 1984 Matrix bad brother is inside many heads, but you can turn off the tv and go for a walk on the green grass of Tara without asking anyones permission and theres no need to worship. Try freedom.

Hi,
it seems that the uncultured demand that the rest of us become uncultured and enter a state of complete governance.

When the IMB was trying to ban St John's Wort they caused a minor uproar, the end effect was that they could only make it a prescription drug (ie from the doctor) and this was to only be available from the chemist (who did not stock it). The end effect was that St John's Wort was not actually banned in Ireland but it became very hard to get. The real issue was not the banning of another herb by sleight of medical pharmaceutical hands but the erosion of freedom of choice.

This same trick is being played on our Celtic Culture by the church of fear and its extreme fascist wing Opus Dei. They have used every trick in the book to displace, erode and diminish the importance of the Royal City of Tara and the sacred stream of the Celtic Horse Goddess (Gabhra). This is very evident to those who look with clear sight. Opus Dei have a E10 million Lismullin Institute in the sacred valley of the White Mare of our Celtic Ancestors. This is a fact. There are only 800 or so members in OD and their names are secret. They represent extreme fascism - read the book "The Way" by the new St Josemaria Escariva. I wonder if Adolf used this as a model when he wrote Mein Camp.

What amuses me most is that the mudslingers actually reckon that the readers will believe the mud slung to be appropriate. When you think about it the mudslingers have to actually be standing in and covered and handeling the mud in the first place. So who is actually covered in mud. Fools.

May the forgiving rains wash them clean and allow them to begin fresh.

It is an ancient site that should be celebrated not just as the centre of Celtic Civilisation but of the Civilisations that preceded the Celts. The spirits of na Fir (agus na Mná) Bholg still stalk the hill and the valleys. To reject this true National Monument and cover it with a motorwat is a crime against posterity.

I know Bertie Ahern and I know the way his mind works. There's votes in this M3 - Fine Gael are for it for the same reason - Bertie is after the third seat in Meath, so he'll build the M3 anyway. He knows as well as I do that Vincent Salafia is a regugee from Carrickmines Castle, a would-be soon-to-be-forgotten politician, who thought he could take on the Real Goddess of Ireland, Mary McAleese. I have already critices Salafia for "acting the Lone Ranger" in not consulting people about Tara - and I was thrown off his website there and then. Boring stuff anyway, yawn...

It would be better that all the fundraising Salafia is doing be spent on facilities for the Hill of Tara itself and that the motorway be lined with stout oaks, Yews and Druid Rowans.

It's a total waste of money to oppose Fianna Fail and Fine Gael together.

What we need now is negotiation with the Government over Tara to develop the Hill along the lines as set out in the prospectus of The Friends of Tara.

We will not change Bertie's mind by continuing to oppose him and we'll end up two-time losers in the end.

We have set out our stall, so let's cut our losses and negotiate a settlement as any pragmatic politician would do.

Let's negotiate a long-term strategic development plan to enhance The Hill of Tara now, while we have the chance.

And no, atheist, I don't believe in goddesses either unless they're in mini skirts.

"Tara has provided a physical focus for our identity as a nation for over two thousand years."

What nation? Ireland was made up of numerous kingdoms, the concept of the nation has only been around for a couple of centuries. This revisionist garbage is a common feature of extreme nationalism.

"We are taking (sic) about a people maintaining their dignity and sense of identity"

If your dignity is linked to a pile of muck then I feel sorry for you. All this talk of "a people" and "Irish patriots" is disturbing. Fuck off back to stormfront, stop expecting the left to support your campaign, tarring us by association.

i'm not supporting any mumbo jumbo, i think Tara as a heritage site should be defended and preserved. some think the site is imbued with spirits. different people have different understandings of the word spiritual. I know what mine is. I dont think a motorway should be built thru the acropolis or the pyramids either.

You should also note that not all Druids support McGrath.

The Wiccans put McGrath to flight when he tried to crown a High King of Ireland on Tara. With cries of "Up the Republic" they gave No Platform to Druidic-Fascist-Monarchists!

Dear "another atheist" its obvious you have not read An leabhair gabhala or Book of Invasions, written in the 10th century with the express purpose of defining the whole people of Ireland as one nation - having many kingdoms in no way suggests that the Gael did not see themselves as a distinct nation. Also when Brian Boru visited Armagh his visit was recorded as the visit of the king of the Gael. These are just two examples - Irish literature leaves no doubt that those who spoke the Irish language and lived on this island regarded themselves as one nation - not one state, but one nation. Im afraid it is you who has put your trust in revisionists such as Roy Foster, who's purpose is to give the British Empire the credit for making the Irish see themselves as one nation. As for the association of dignity with particular places - or piles of muck as you call them - Im afraid this is a lasting feature of the human spirit - take for example the reverence of the Sioux nation for the Black Hills. I suppose after reading a few pages of Marx you consider yourself liberated from such considerations ( this is not an insult to Marx - he actually understood what he wrote)

You dont seem to realise that Irish spelling has changed in one thousand years - anyway it really is a sign of desperation when you resort to checking your opponents spelling. Particular copies we have may have been written by one scribe, but the evidence suggests that the original work had input from several sourses - not least traditional ones. Besides, as I said it was just one example, read almost any work in Irish over the last twelve hundred years and you will soon realise that the Irish saw themselves as a distinct nation. Ill give you another example - cogadh gallaibh re gaelaibh (modern spelling) or the war of the foreigners with the gael, refering to the viking attacks. The authors obvious saw the gael as their side and the vikings and danes as foreigners.

1. I'm not the snobbish one here, you're the one who presumed i'd never even heard of the book (I mereley pointed out that your haughtiness may be misplaced, given you couldn't spell it's correct name)

You seem to suggest that a modern Irish spelling of a middle Irish name is incorrect – as it happens I did spell leabhar wrong – Im not very good with English spelling either – but the whole concept of not being able to use modern Irish is a bit odd to say the least.

2. I don't even know where to start, your arguments are frustratingly stupid.

If you say so.

3. So if by "we" in your earlier posts you are referring to Gaels, as opposed to Vikings and all that came after, who exactly are you talking about? Pure Gaels? How Nazi-esque! Besides, who the fuck is that? I have a Gaelic name, but I'm pretty sure I've Normans, Jews, and a few more "peoples" in my ancestry.

The concept of a pure Gael or pure anything else is not something I mentioned, though if you take a pure Gael to mean a mix between the celts and the native people who lived here before the Indo-Europeans, in theory they could exist. But most people today who consider themselves Gaels are people who value the Irish language and culture. And places and place names are a central part of that culture. You made a statement that the concept of a nation in Ireland is only a couple of centuries old, to back up that statement you pointed out that Ireland had been split up into many kingdoms. My point was that the Gael saw themselves as a distinct nation for at least the last twelve hundred years – many Gaelic texts show that. And in the period you are referring to, i.e. when Ireland was broken up into kingdoms there wasn’t too many Normans or Jews here.

4. Stop trying to tell me what my heritage is. You can choose to subscribe to some nationalistic fairy tales if you choose, but stop trying to force it down everyone else's throats.

For all I knew you could have been from Tibet – how would I tell you what your heritage is?

5. You referred earlier to "the darkness of the British Empire." Ha! As opposed to the wonderful glow of Gaelic society? Oh please....

Whatever about the Indo-Europeans, I know that the group of people known as the Gael didn’t go all around the world stealing everything they set their eyes on, claiming all the land for their Monarch and murdering anyone brave enough to oppose them.

6. "ts when people forget who they are that groups like the Nazis can take advantage of their confusion."
Precisely. And I know exactly who I am. I'm an Anarchist who comes from a long line of people who gave their lives because they believed they were fighting for freedom. Not Celtic bullshit. What evidence do you actually have that Tara has ment nothing to sane people in centuries? How exactly have you diagnosed those of us to whom Tara is of the utmost importance as insane? What is your qualification in psychiatry or psycho analysis? Your sense of identity seems a bit parochial - but if you are happy with it, then fair play!
