Armagh - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Looking to the future
Although I have been really busy recently, I though had agreed to be pencilled in to speak at a conference in Armagh city {this from Feb early March} for April 25th. The conference is under the title of ‘ Partners In Pluralism’.
I am unsure if invitation only, but I specifically made a point of pencilling this in as it draws in many strands of our local situation, and so may afford those in attendance a better understanding of various issues as we attempt to move forward.
Should be interesting.
Link {November Diary} attached - details such topics ranging from racism to education, from empowerment to resources and other local specifics etc. Good Relations Conference ‘ Partners In Pluralism’

just interested as to y u were invited to speak
are speaking as arn
I am speaking in a personal capacity PC. {That is why ARN not after my name}.
Most people know that I have stood down from the ARN SG - 9 months or so ago, so requests to oneself for talks or interviews, on racism - {as I am asked to speak increasingly now on many other topics } are 99. 9% now in that PC, this both local and International.
If though they are looking specifically a ARN SG member to speak then that will be passed on - but that has not been the case to date
Saying that though, if either I cannot do or if persons would like additional views I would pass them on to the ARN SG as I had done most recently with Magill Magizine amongst others. D
Davey
How many more conferences?
Does the issue of racism and how to defeat it, have to always be accomodated by the very class, dare I say "liberal do gooders" who constantly access public funding, to tackle racism, yet who have in the past ten years presided over the most dramatic rise in racism seen anywhere in Europe.
If an audit was to be done into the amount of public money, invested by these individulas and NGO's into promoting equality and anti-racism, then there would be serious questions asked about what good they have achieved.
Its good to see an activist like yourself speaking at these conferences, but you and I know that racism is a problem of the class inspired politics of division.
Why is racism and its eradication left to the very people who are good at putting together conferences and middle class talking shops, but have no inclination to deal with the subject from the grass roots?
Making racism irrelevant tomorrow is not rocket science.
Legislation, community education and community action against racism and racists, not talking shops for the do gooders and liberals who are just looking for another way to access public money.
I agree with most of what you say. Indeed you know me well my friend, and indeed in future years if/when the call goes out to mobilise against ‘those’ who may seek to mobilise and organise here themselves, I know you will be one to be at ones shoulder.
My friend I get asked to speak at many such conferences, and prioritise those that I feel will make the most impact - more especially at colleges - universities etc. In doing so one therefore can have the opportunity to put ones uncensored words to the ears of many - despite whoever organises the event and whatever funding they may receive.
I have found through experience that such words with an account of such actions - indeed does inspire many within such audiences – {whoever and however they are organised} - and it is they who I reach out to. .
-Additionally I choose such avenues and events if they ‘specifically appeal to me - for whatever reasoning.
Indeed it is simply an additional 'elevated box of which mileage can be gained - no more - no less. as the fight - the real fight, is of course shoulder to shoulder with our class.
I, as you know, believe in class politics not only through ones words but through ones actions, as proven. But in saying that, I am not though a purist, and therefore strategise to that effect.
Indeed many had problems with the BAWM as with the ARN as with MPH - but I have found that getting into the heart of whatever it is, through initiating, driving forward, and being key within such - does indeed ensure a hearing is heard amongst those who would have before balked at such words and actions .
And in doing so, that can further develop into solidarity that can be called union at times of struggle or indeed at times of need.
My friend to be frank and honest, our class, and its potential, burns daily in my thoughts and within my heart – but with that - my mind is strong and it is focused, very very focused indeed.
ATB my friend. D
PS - Afternoon session with be the four of us below at the same table rather than one going up after another - as so to facilitate more open discussion etc..
