'Be like Joe!'
July 8 Marks the day Irish Republican Hungerstriker Joe McDonnell Died on Hungerstrike 25 years ago.
We are asking the youth of the world to join with Ógra Shinn Féin in commemorating this brave Irish revolutionary who died the most awful of deaths, to advance the struggle for freedom and socialism.
At 5.11 a.m., on July 8th 1981, Joe McDonnell, who - believeably, for those who know his wife Goretti, his children Bernadette and Joseph and his family - "had too much to live for" died after sixty one days of agonising hunger strike, rather than be criminalised.
Na Fianna Eireann activist - Fiann John Dempsey was shot while on active service in Turf Lodge Belfast - on the day of Joe McDonnell's death - we remember him with pride!
Ideas suggested are:
Youth Marches,
'Rock The Block' concerts,
White line vigils,
Candle light vigils,
Torchlight processions,
Banner drops,
Leafleting,
Postering etc,
and especially making use of the '10 reasons posters.'
Every area should be organising an event, of whatever size to mark this momentous date in this significant anniversary.

Since New PSF has recognised the British law in Ireland which convicted him and branded him a criminal, then New PSF must also regard him as a criminal. If British law in Ireland is legitimate now then it was legitimate then. When you take your seats in British assemblies and help to administer British rule in Ireland you obviously recognise that rule and the law its based on. If its lawfull for British law to establish the Stormont parliament then its clearly lawfull for that law to convict and imprison someone who has broken that law.
Its been pointed out to youse punters before here that the slogan on that poster is in the worst taste imaginable ( although just not quite as tasteless as the dinner plates with hungerstrikers faces on them being flogged in the US) . Those 10 images could much more easily be used as justification for 10 very good reasons not to have anything to do with the provos and never believe a word they tell you about anything . Absolutely nothing .
Those 10 young men are not the property of Gerry Adams and never were . Didnt stop him selling them though .
And what Che Guevara would make of Martin McGuinness congratulatory dinner and inane grin with Henry Kissinger , or him and Gerry with their noses up George Bushes arsehole Id shudder to think .
