About 500,000 protest in downtown LA
At least 500,000 people marched in downtown LA to protest the Sensenbrenner (senate) bill that would recreate the bracero class of indentured semi-illegal immigrants in the USA.
This was a completely fucking huge march. It's really hard to estimate how big it was. Way bigger than any of the anti-war marches even at their peak and with a tremenduous energy.
People were really mad about this. An editorial at LA indymedia explains why at the link below.
This is not going to happen. The right-wingers that want free flow of their money, machinery and armies, but not of people have pushed too far.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3To clarify, 500,000 is the police estimate. There may have been anywhere between 500,000 and 2,000,000 people. People that don't usually hype these things are settling for about 750,000. The march went on for 26 blocks. Chicago had a similar protest with 300,000 people on the streets.
Proposition 4437 is going to fail. Bush is now calling for a "civil" debate on immigration.
Don't believe the hype I was in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday when the historic march to protest the racist anti-immigration bill HR 4437 took place. For those who don't know, this bill would make illegal immigrants felons as well as anybody, including family members who help them in any sort of way.

Good on the mexicans.
Its time irish refugees protested. No deportations for Irish asylum seekers.
