Veteran broadcaster Dunphy blasts misuse of Dáil privilege over Frank Connolly affair , speaks passionately in favour of the Rossport Five in this Daily Ireland interview and slams the profession that he is involved in: The Media!
I know he is never consistent but some of the quotes here are classics, angry and on the money.
“We live in a corrupt society, and the corrupt people are not going to go to the barricades to save Frank Connolly."
“It has not changed for the better, no. Journalism now in Ireland is much weaker than it was when I began, which is now 27 years ago. It does not have the crusading zeal that it had. It’s much more interested in celebrity, style and stories about people’s personal lives."

How a slightly built midfielder for Millwall FC ended up as the most recognisable face in Irish journalism is one of the more intriguing stories in the history of the modern Irish media.
Eamon Dunphy is the most capped player in Millwall’s history but only the most passionate of Lions fans would know him for that.
For many, he is better known as the author of biographies of two of Ireland’s most high-profile human exports – U2 and Roy Keane. To others, he is the passionate and entertaining face of TV soccer punditry.
But in recent years, it is as a radio broadcaster that Eamon Dunphy has made his most enduring mark — first on Today FM with his critically acclaimed Last Word programme and now with The Breakfast Show with Eamon Dunphy on Dublin’s NewsTalk 106.

Still, I suppose there could be one advantage; he would be free to call a Blueshirt a Blueshirt without having to apologise to John Bruton.
Could the dunphster possibly be referring to the same corupt system that saw him walk about from his drink driving offenses? Or the one that offered him .5 million to host an appalling talk radio show?
As a journo on the Sunday Independent, and authors of books about U2 and Roy Keane he should be in a good position to tell us about how rotten Ireland's establishment is, alright...
This is the same Eamonn who once opined hed join up to the above if there was a united Ireland . That was when there was a good living to be had bashing shinners and he was as rabid as Harris and OHanlon , even more so . No bashing the brits on the airwaves or the orangemen despite their role in slaughter up north .
Then post section 31 and ceasefire there was a niche in the media market for people who were nice to shinners and in he stepped and was nice to shinners and carried on earning . Now theres a lot of people marching rioting blockading shell etc and Eamons anti establishment . Gotta hand it him . He can sniff an opportunity a mile off .
