The New Scientific Priesthood Wants Complete Control of What We Are Told Wed Dec 18, 2024 13:32 | Dr David McGrogan
The ambition of elites to "manage the infodemic" amounts to the establishment of a scientific priesthood that wants full control of what we are told to ensure we only come to approved conclusions, says Dr David McGrogan.

China Cancels Christmas in Hong Kong ? Leaving Churches Fearing for Their Future Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:22 | John MacNab
China has cancelled Christmas in Hong Kong this year. Officials have ordered that the usual celebrations be 'toned down'. It's part of a creeping intolerance that leaves churches fearing for the future, says John MacNab.

I think its now time the victims family and friends moved on. The pub is not in the Butterlys name anymore and has been trading for the last 25 years as a pub. It closed for a short time for renovations. Nobody outside artane seems to know this?? Everyone is saying the pub has just been opened. If you want justice you have to tell the truth or people wont take your organisation seriously.
We just got word that deliveries of alcohol have been made to the Silver Swan (Stardust site). Protestors believe they are planning to open soon and have asked people who are available to come along and support their pickets. Monday to Friday between 6 and 8pm. Think there are pickets on Saturday and Sunday too, but don't have the times for them.
It is a scandal that, 25 years on, the victims of the Stardust fire are still looking for justice. Shame on Bertie Ahern, who has ignored the pleas of the relatives and victims. Shame on the Government which has turned its back on them. Shame on the Butterly family who, through their insensitive behaviour, have heaped further suffering and misery on a community who surely have suffered grieviously over the past 25 years.

You stills seem to be missing the point, its the DPP who will lay the charges and make a decision on what charge is appropriate. If you take the trouble to read the tribunal report, then you will see that Butterley's actions were not an isolated incident but one which the report states were a usual occurance, the exits were chained on his instructions, regularly putting the lives of up to 1000 people at risk.
These events happened 25 years ago and no justice has been achieved. We have no difficulty in calling a spade a spade, Butterly set out to make huge profits and recklessly disregarded peoples safety to do so. These is no comparison with a normal traffic accident. Butterly knew what he was doing. We are not concerned abvout upsetting Butterly or his supporters sensativities. No amount of political correctness or leagalise will alter the fact that Eamonn Butterley's actions on the 14th Febuary 1981 led to the deeaths of 48 innocent people. We will continue to call him what he is a murderer.
"Clearly, we have a view that Butterly is guilty of murder, we accept that the mens rea may not be sufficent to prove that. This does not prevent us demanding that DPP lay charges for murder. As we have said we are quite willing to accept the DPP charging him with manslaughter. In order for the momentum of the campaign to be built up it is necessary to point out that the deaths were more than a mere byproduct of the fire thence we will use the term murder. This does not prevent us recognising the legal realities, but we are not going to be bogged down in a side debate over terminology"
well i'm very sorry to point this out but terminology is important in the legal sphere. that's why people don't get convicted of muder if it wasn't murder. it may sound pedantic to you but its the truth. yes you could call him a murderer in the colloquial sense of the word. as in, if a man accidentally knocked a child down and it died it would be only natural for its parents to deem him a murderer.but in reality, he isn't. because there was no intent. its riduclous that a campaign that should have such integrity is calling for this. i understand its a sensitive subject but it is not just a "side debate in terminology". it is quite relevant. i would not sign a petition to call for charges of murder be brought against someone when quite clearly they are not a murderer. but guilty of another very serious charge indeed. i am not the only person who thinks this way.
Picketing the maxol garage is obviously damaging the butterelys financially, but do remember only in a very small way. Just look at the shop units he rents out on the site, the annual turnover is huge. It seems to me that this nightly picket is uniting people in their grief , these decent and genuine people who have suffered for so long and will continue to suffer until there is justice. Im ashamed to say we abandoned these people please do not let it become 30 years before their healing can begin. Many people who were at the stardust that night obviously feel it extremely difficult to be near the place, but I would urge you to try and come down, it may help you a little, it will certainly show support to families and supporters there and it will be part of a campaign to finally make Butterely pay for what he has done. To everyone who feels this is an injustice show your support and joint the protest. It will make a difference. Just look at what happened with the Rossport 5. ALL WELCOME,
Joanne

The best way readers can do this at the moment is by signing the petition
while its understandable that you would want justice for your family its unfortunate that you use the term "murder". the DPP will never bring any charges for murder as it is highly unlikely that butterly would have the mental element required for murder. this is a stringent requirement to get a conviction.
which would you rather, butterlybe brought to trial for murder (which incidentally is never going to happen) and be found innocent because of a lack of intent?
or...be brought to trial for manslaughter (which is feasible) and be found guilty for having reckless disregard to the lives of others?
despite this i wish you well in your campaign for justice.
We are not going to be caught up in a debate on murder / manslaughter, as a family we believe its murder,
Let the DPP lay either charge,
We are also happy for a jury to determine if its murder or manslaughter.
Murder is defined as intention to kill or do GBH, there is I believe sufficent evidence in the report to argue that the all of the actions of Butterly do lead to intention to do GBH.
Our demand is that Butterly gores through the same legal process as anyone else i.e a criminal process and is tried in a criminal court.
Please encourage all to sign the Petition
I wouldn't call it murder as that requires the actual killing itself to be intentional, i.e. the Butterleys would have had to have opened the disco that night intending to kill people. Personally I feel that you'd have a better chance with Manslaughter.
Having said that, I wish you and your co-campaigners all the best, and I hope you get what you're after.

The demand of the Lawlor family is exactly that, We are demanding that on foot of the original Tribunal report that Eamonn Butterly, be charged with murder. My wife is Mary Lawlor whose Brother Francis and his wife Maureen were Murdered in the Stardust. Its time to call a spade a spade. Our family posters state clearly that they were Murdered, the media have not published these posters despite there presence on protests as they believe their is a clear libel issue. We would ask what character does Butterly have to protect?
We have set up a web site address below, (please bear with us as its still under construction), where we will be setting up a petition to demand that the DPP reopen the file and charge Butterly.
Seperately we were successful in getting an adjournment of the Ad Interim Transfer of the licence to the Silver Swan, it is Butterlys intention to transfer it to a Jason Gamble.
Any information available about him would be welcome, particularly in relation to his character, other business interests etc., please send to me email above
What I can never understand about the Stardust disaster is why the Butterleys weren't brought up on charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal negligence for barricading the emergency exits. This had the effect of holding those poor unfortunate young people inside to be burned.
The families and survivors are right to want justice. They should have got it to start off with.
I was deeply sadened and moved when i watched the film about the Stardust and would like to offer my full support to the cause even though i live in England. Keep up the good work you guys, justice will come.

well now i usualy look at this site every now and again
but any way getting back to this subject . im from around this area and i personaly know three persons who were there that night .
and the owner of this place is so hartless it is not right of profit over safety ,
please give the Familys your full support in this matter
and hoprfully they will see the justice that they need
because all they are asking is for justice
I think this is an excellent idea. Hit that fucker where it hurts, in his pocket. How could he reopen that place on the 25th anniversary of the deaths of so many. This just shows how bad these people are and how they treat the rest of us with contempt.
I will be giving a dig out with the rest of my family.
