Carole Cadwalladr is Guilty of ?Defemition? Fri Dec 06, 2024 13:00 | James Alexander
Carol Cadwalladr's latest 'analysis' of what she calls the 'broligarchy' is a feverish mishmash of Trump Derangement Syndrome, cod feminism and Delingpole-esque levels of conspiracy theory gobbledegook, says James Alexander

Smoggie Queens Shows How Far BBC Comedy Has Fallen Fri Dec 06, 2024 09:00 | Steven Tucker
Smoggie Queens shows how far BBC comedy has fallen, says Steven Tucker. Let's be honest, there's only one reason the corporation made this awful TV programme, and it's certainly not because it's funny.

What are the single men referred to under threat from in Nigeria? Persumably they made some sort of a case and were turned down? That's the process.
Is this a protest against the concept of deportation, the fact the Ireland deports people, that Ireland deports **some** people, or perhaps even the way in which deportation is used in certain cases? Can you please clarify?
The original post is a little (perhaps intentionally?) vague.
Surely 'Residents against Racism' is a misnomer?
Deportations are carried out on numerous nationalities - not based on race but on failure to be granted legal immigrant status.
'Residents against Deportations' seems more appropriate.

Racism group slams round-up of Nigerian nationals
An unknown number of Nigerian nationals are being arrested for deportation by the Gardaí today, according to a group campaigning for better treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers.
Residents Against Racism said it had received reports of several arrests throughout the country and believed the Nigerians would be deported to Lagos on a clandestine flight from Dublin tonight.
The group has previously criticised the Government's policy of rounding up failed asylum seekers and deporting them under cover of darkness on specially chartered flights.
It said some of the people being detained today fled Nigeria for fear of being forced to undergo female circumcision, while others had grown up in Ireland and were much more Irish than Nigerian.
Residents Against Racism wants responsibility for asylum and immigration to be taken away from the Government and given to an independent agency.
Were the single male deportees under threat of genital mutilation?
thats a silly question and i think it illustrates how little you care about the horrors these women will face if they are deported.
many of the men would face death or at least assault by state or private militias.
They applied for asylum, were allowed state their case, and were turned down. Obviously they did not convince anybody that they were under threat. There have to be some rules you know. Can't just let anyone who feels like it come here and stay. No state in the world operates on that basis.
there has to be rules.
i suppose you think that rules should also apply to the 40,000 irish illegal economic immigrants in the US. I guess you want to see them returned to Ireland.
If people are granted asylum on legitimate grounds (and I happen to know people in that situation) well and good, and they are certainly deserving. If not, and have provided no reasons why they ought to be, then they must be deported. Simple as that. Otherwise you will have even more false claims of asylum.
BTW, I am not aware of any of the illegal Irish claiming to be asylum seekers.
the irish are working illegally in the US and are demanding the right to stay. what would you call that?
Adisa Yususfu Murphy, who has been here for 6 years is one of the three adults plus children today who are being deported today that we know of at the moment...
We are not sure where they are being held at the moment but they are close to Dublin Port
They may be probably forced onto a Stena Line ferry to the UK on the 9 pm sailing...
It is imperative that anyone who has connections to Ferry workers could contact staff working this evening on this issue or those who may be free to come down to the docks to stop these deportations....
It is important that we can make the connection to those workers this evening that they are opposed to these deportations and to refuse to allow the state to use them in this way...
Word is coming through that people are enroute to holyhead on Stenna line at 8ish.. can anyone with any connections please call 087 054 1947 asap...
Should we take in every single woman at risk from female circumcision? Yes, lets take them all in and give them housing and wefare benefits.
I have a friend who was in Australia illegally. He was deported. Is this racism? No. If youre not meant to be in a country and if your application is turned down, then you should leave.
Under the Dublin convention people must apply for asylum in the first country they land in. There are no direct flights between Nigeria and Ireland, therefore Nigerians should be turned away immediately and should not be allowed to set foot on Irish soil unless they are here legally.
