The L+H are at it again. Looking for publicity at any cost they have invited racist nazi's out to speak on an immigration debate on Nov 9th 2005

It shows the L+H aren't interested in intelligent debate they are only looking for publicity and perhaps their names in the national media.
After the debacle at last years immigration debate, a Indymedia hack journeyed through Irish far right sites and wrote an article on who Justin Barrets friends and supporters on the net are see http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=67076&comment_id=88357. One of these, Ted Roach has been contacted by the L and H to speak himself or arrange speakers for an immigration debate on Novemeber 7th 2005 see

"Ted Roach is the online moniker used by someone who describes themselves as an ‘independent thinker’ and as a “former ICP member now a Justin Barrett supporter” and politically as a “white winger”. His home page link points to Justin barretts site, he also posts audio downloads of ‘Mein kampf’ up on the web. Talking about Barrett he has said that:
“A number of concerned citizens including Justin Barrett will be meeting in Dublin very soon, I am not going to say when and where this meeting will take place for obvious reasons, but anyone who is genuinely Interested in attending can PM me.”

Speaking about Nigerians in Ireland he said: “It does'nt matter if their "good people " their still going to pollute our gene pool.”
This is an absolute disgrace and I would seriously hope that the college authorities move to close this down and the union immediately move to a no platform positon which can be implemented peacefully and through a mas boycott of the L and H from the start of the year.
Considering the number of complaints students brought to the college about the racist jokes made at the last immigration debate, the college would seriously do well to open up these complaints again under the policy of dignity and respect as the rich tossers in the L and H have not learnt, racism and fascism will not be tolerated in UCD.

Going all the way to facism and nazism is just the next logical slide down the slippery slope. Expect this move to be welcomed by the "freedom institute" and other bastions of neocon thought. The really frightening thing though is that the law school in UCD is responsible for educating many of the political and judicial elite in this country. Indoctrination by putting the "right" people in place in the law school is akin to what the US republicans do by seeding the supreme court with conservatives. Isn't it about time that such teaching positions were vetted to ensure balance?
... I have generally gone with the free speech as opposssed to 'no platform' argument.That said, Ted Roach is an irreperable reprobate, lunatic and general saddo. Incitement issues aside, this calibre of man hardly constitutes a rational, intelligent speaker. Honestly, the L + H would receive more credibility by having a member of the Flat Earth Society come and speak.
Hence, in the name of taste, decency, and self respect, I would hope the L + H desist from brining on this head banger...

The L and H is the Literary and Historical society .more accurately it is the debating society in University College Dublin.
It is generally made up of right wing hacks and careerists but has been known to have a few sound heads in its ranks occasionally.
The Literary and Historical society is a debating society in UCD. It's members are, mainly, middle class students. No stranger to controversy the L+H like to invite fascist speakers out to speak so that the chair of the society can get his/her name in the paper. The L+H invited Justin Barrett out to speak last year.
Lads, the L&H isn't the only debating society in college.
Its an absolute disgrace that a bunch of attention seeking 'debaters' within UCD are contemplating this debate on 9th November with Nazis.
I wonder has it crossed their vaccous minds that 9 November will be the 77th Anniversary of Kristallnacht...The Night Of the Broken Glass....Many observers view this pogrom as a forewarning of the further Nazi Holocaust

Who is Ted Roach?
The L&H has never contacted anybody with this name, nor has it extended an open invitation to any group. In trying to put together a debate on immigration, we invited people on both sides of the issue to address the society. One of the groups we tried to contact was the Immigration Control Platform, where we left messages for Aine Ni Chonaill and a man called Aidan MacMahon, who stood in Dundalk Town Council, Ward 1 in the last local elections. We have not received a response to either of these messages.
How Ted Roach got the notion that he or any of his friends had been invited, we have no idea whatsoever. How he came to think he has political allies operating behind the scenes in the L&H, we cant understand. Let us be very clear: no-one behind, to the side, or on the scenes of the L&H has anything to do with this man.
Furthermore, we ask that Original poster, whoever that may be, remove the post headed L+H have Nazi members. This is a completely baseless and highly offensive claim.
So you are offended by a headline and yet have absolutely no problem inviting someone out who offends the ethnic minority community, and indeed incites violence and racial hatred. Shame on you Auditor.
Are things only offensive when they offend you or do you believe that ethnic minorities are there to be offended for your entertainment?

Far be it from me to comment but the UCD SU obviously know their own better than us.

The Irish Times printed an apolgy some time ago for, implying he (Justin Barret) was a neo-nazi, or held neo-nazi views.
There was also something about the worry by the Fianna Fail hacks about attacking him, in case he endangered
their traditional seats, on a new Christian party agenda/platform.
Alot of the (leftists/Liberalists) venom seems to stem
from objections to his Catholic faith.
In spite that the Catholic church has always opposed nazism, marxism, communism, socialism, capitalism,
greed, and secret societies (eg free Masons)
, and has produced countless books on these subjects.
Anyway, it's kind of late to discuss this type of "stale old debate" on politics. The powers that be, in our `so-called'
democracies have other plans for us,
that will, cause the the blood of liberalists everywhere to curl, and the scales will fall from our eyes.
