"David Almacy just called me from the White House communications office to clarify the reports that Bush flipped off reporters yesterday while visiting the Hill. David says that Bush was definitely giving the thumbs up sign with regards to the upcoming CAFTA vote (Central American Free Trade Agreement). I asked David if I could write about our conversation, and he said please do.

I have to say, I'm not real convinced by the thumbs up excuse. It's possible, of course, but the video doesn't look like his thumb, and Bush has a history of flipping off reporters (there's a video we posted last fall of him flipping off a reporter in Texas while governor). This is a still shot of that video from when Bush was governor."

President George W. Bush stirred the debate on the teaching of evolution in schools when he said this week that he supported the teaching of alternative viewpoints - such as the theory of Intelligent Design - to help students "understand what the debate is about".

Surely the advocates of the theory of "intelligent design" could come up with a better example than Bush if any credence is to be given to it.

It's hard to credit that a nation that can put a man on the moon has, as predident, a man who thinks religious hocus pocus is worth listening to.
Not every belief is valid. Some are pure shit, and Creationism is pure shit.
To tell children that Darwinian evolution is on a par with the kind of fevered drivel in the Bible (or any other folk tale/ creation myth) is to ruin their minds.
What's worse, making them more credulous - getting them to believe any old shit that they are told by an authority figure - will only soften them up for future '45 minute warnings'.
"But the president said it, so it must be true..."
I am so glad I am not an American, and those Americans reading this post have my sympathies - The inheritors of a nation founded on the principles of the Enlightenment deserved better than monkey boy...

'Not every belief is valid. Some are pure shit, and Creationism is pure shit.'

Some academics and theologians have studied the origins of the Earth and it's lifeforms for the majority of their long lives. Yet there are differing opinions amongst them regarding evolution and Creationism.
However, along comes Holy Moses and with one analytical masterpiece puts them straight.

There certainly are differing opinions. The theologians think one thing and the scientists / academics think d'other (at least the sane 99% do). Funny that.

I reckon that the day theologians are able to measure the temparature of the universe in the nano-second after the big bang is the day that we should care what they say about the origins of the universe. Snake oil salesmen, shysters, hucksters each and every one of them. Of course they're going to big-up god, they're selling his product.
