Brillant photos. Cheers for that.
I always go to May Day events as holy days of obligation. Hey I'm into ritual.
But an interesting article in the Guardian yesterday (sat.) on why there is no May Day anarch event in London this year (there wasn't one in London last year and it couldn't have been solely that all the Wombles were over here!)
Partly, folks are saving their energies and limited resources for the G8 in Scotland, but partly because there is a recognition that RTS is an exhausted tactic.
The cops (as they always do) learn, study and refine their techniques, and they have largely done that with RTS in England according to the article....we are more likely to reinvent the wheel and beat an idea to death until it is exhausted, Sometimes it's better to end well rather than with an exhausted whimper. RTS has been great but we may find tomorrow that its used by date is up.
I don't find the photo of the person chugging on the cider particularly inspiring, but that's just me, who likes to be sober when surrounded by a lot of cops and doesn't want to take responibility for people who aren't sober when surrounded by the same cops. Each to his/her own, I guess...one can always walk away.
See you tomorrow.....great photos etc
There IS an anarchist mayday action in London. But it's a secret.
I heard another person say that RTS here is an exhausted tactic and I honoustly cant see that. RTS is a street party. A street is closed down for a few hours so people can enjoy themselves and experience what it would be like if our roads wernt clogged up with traffic all day. Nothing more. Nothing less.
