at GNIB on burgh quay
residents against racism has been asked by hostel residents to call a demo for tomorrow at 12:30 outside the garda national immigration bureau on the quays to protest imminent deportations.
a resident of a gardiner st hostel was delivered a letter today by an immigration officer stating that as a "non national who does not have permission to be in the state he must reside or remain at the hostel and report to a member of the guards at 5pm every evening. " he was told this was a precursor to deportation.
all the residents already sign on every morning. penalties for not reporting to a garda at 5pm is a fine of up to 3000 euro or up to 12 months imprisonment plus being liable to arrest without a warrant.
the hostel owner wasn't informed of new signing on regulations. if all the residents have to do this they will be unable to visit their children in ennis and around the country.
this new move on the part of the ministry for justice is causing panic and fears of mass deportations.
please come along and support at the GNIB on burgh quay tomorrow. the more people that show up the more support people under threat of deportation will know they have. it'll help.
