Enough is Enough

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | event notice author Wednesday April 13, 2005 10:01author by na banaltraí (nuh BAHN-uhl-tree); nurse, the nurse, - of the nurses - they're cool may you never really need one on a professional basisauthor email ino at ino dot ieauthor address The Whitworth Building, North Brunswick Street,Dublin 7author phone + 353 1 6640600 Report this post to the editors

Spread the word. Nurses are cool & they've had enough.

‘Just a Nurse’
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just make the difference between life and death.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just have the educated eyes that prevent medical errors, injuries and other catastrophes.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just make the difference between healing and coping, and despair.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just make the difference between pain and comfort.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I’m just a nurse researcher who helps nurses and doctors give better, safer and more effective care.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I’m just a professor of nursing who educates future generations of nurses.

I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just work in a major teaching hospital managing and monitoring patients who are in cutting-edge experimental medical research protocols.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just educate patients and families about how to maintain their health and independence.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I’m just a geriatric nurse practitioner who makes the difference between a patient staying at home or going to a nursing home.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I just make the difference between dying in agony and dying in comfort and with dignity.
I’m ‘just a nurse’. I’m just the real bottom-line in healthcare.
Don’t you want to be ‘just a nurse’ too?
– Suzanne Gordon

excerpted from the President of the INO's letter to her members in which she asks them to read the work of a seminal feminist writer. Which just goes to prove they are a punny lot.

or drink too much, or pick something up off the floor and eat it without washing it, you may have to goto A&E.
This why you must make sure you're wearing clean underwear at all times. It's the first thng they check.
In most wealthy civilised state of the €U this will mean the allocation of a "hospital bed".

Except of course in Ireland.
You may be wondering what a hospital bed looks like-
well wonder no more here's a photo.

this is what a hospital bed looks like.
