Jeez, that's an impressive turnout.
Must have been twelve people there.

It was a photo op, more or less, not meant to be a full blown protest - also was a continuation of the campaign to have the rest returned, like Kunle.

The posters had many of the names and faces of those deported on Kunle's plane.

The RAR campaign continues in Athlone and other places in the weeks ahead - getting outside the Dublin Pale.

On a point of interest, do you really think that PD head office is the correct place to protest, when Minister McDowell has his own constituency office in Ranelagh and Dept of Justice Offices in St Stephen's Green.
Also, targeting the minority coalition party when collective responsibility applies could almost be seen as laying no "blame" (and I use that term loosely) at the door of Fianna Fail.
Is it just for a change of scenery because you've exhausted all other places to protest?

If the Labour party are going into negotiations over another coalition with another right-wing party will they make a CONDITION of government and end to all deportations and a reversal of the citizenship laws McDowell brought in? Ivana could well be a Labour TD or Senator backing up a government that will implement deportations. Labour have before, why not in future coalitions? I would have thought RAR would know better and would have not been too keen to have Labour at their protests.

Yeah you're right, what RAR should really be doing now is trying to push away all possible Labour support. In fact they shouldn't accept any support from anyone who doesn't agree with the statement that "The central committee of the vanguard trot party know whats best for the working class and anyone who disagrees with them can be sent to the gulag for objectivly being a fascist".

What we need now (watch as i dramatically point my finger into the air) is to all conform to some idiots view of what constitutes radical politics.

"If the Labour party are going into negotiations over another coalition with another right-wing party will they make a CONDITION of government and end to all deportations and a reversal of the citizenship laws McDowell brought in?"

eh... you mean the citizenship laws that the IRISH PEOPLE brought in? Of course Labour are not going to "reverse" the results of a referendum to amend the constitution you muppet. Nobody's allowed do that.

Not that i agree with the citizenship referendum -but its the will of the people, and it can't be reversed without another referendum.

author by Labour?publication date Sun Apr 10, 2005 19:28author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Wrong! The fact is that the referendum gave the Oireachtas power to regulate citizenship, except those of people born in Ireland with an Irish-citizen parent. The Labour party should make it a CONDITION of government to change the laws back to the pre-referendum situation where everyone born in Ireland would be a citizen. But of course they will not as they are not interested in fighting for the rights of immigrants and minorities. Mark my words... LABOUR WILL DEPORT PEOPLE if in government. Its not sectarian to say this as the Labour Party are a party we've to oppose if we want to end racist deportations and citizenship laws.

With the right amount of crowd control and media manipulation referendums can be reversed ....
