Cllr Keith Martin welcomes the discounts after 6 months of lobbying for them

See link below for details of Cllr Martin's lobbying for the discounts. which were reported earlier on Indymedia.ie

Independent Westport Town Councillor, Keith Martin, has commended the town’s leisure centre on what he says is "its enlightened approach to modern lifestyles with the implementation of a Single Parent Family Discount and a discount for the unwaged at Westport Leisure Park." The centre which is wholly owned and run by Westport Town Council and is the town’s community leisure centre.

Cllr Martin had lobbied councillors and management for such a discount for some months and warmly welcomed the introduction of the proposed discounts when they were announced by Westport Leisure Centre last month.

Cllr Martin complimented the General Manager, Dermot Langan and the Directors of Westport Leisure Park Cllr Brendan Mulroy and Cllr Myles Staunton on the new discount, saying “it is excellent to see such a discount, which will encourage more people to use the centre. Cllr Martin said he knew of several families to whom the schemes would be of great benefit" as Single Parent Families meant Single Income Families as well" and that "unwaged meant those people in the late 50s or early 60s who found no one willing to employ them or those who care for others and thus were unwaged through no fault of their own.”

Cllr Martin added that there are many single income families and it is excellent to see them being catered for by Westport Town. We must also remember that even in a great economy such as Ireland’s today there were people who still were unwaged. Helping the less well off is what sets the Irish nation apart from others it is what marks us as a caring society."

"The promotion of healthy activity through the many discounts run at the centre will be a boon for the people in the Westport area. We now have a first-class fitness facility which caters to young and old, students and the retired, single income and the unemployed. All can have access to the facility that is something to be commended and warmly welcomed. "

We cannot allooo this, noo. It will prevent single mothers from having freedom!Think about it...

What we need instead are free passes for right thinking commentators like me with squeaky voices, but only for glorious places of charactah, like The K Club, with it brown painted walls, and brown carpet. The rich are a very interesting bunch of people, and defeders of the west like me should have their company. The incentive for wealth breeds freedom, and I should have that freedom, especially cdonsidering that I have to walk around in public these days with a brown paper bag over my head...

I think that is a little bit of help for Irish single parents. There is nothing wrong with it and will welcome those that have more stress then others their lives.
