Ahmed Ben Bella is the legendary leader of the Algerian resistance to French
colonialism. After the Liberation of Algeria, Ben Bella became the first
President of Algerian.

At 88 years of age Ben Bella is still a leading voice in the struggle against Imperialism
in the world. He is President of a recently formed global coalition of anti-war groups
and anti-imperialist groups established in Cairo in the aftermath of the US invasion
of Iraq.

On Friday March 4th at 6pm in the IFI Ben Bella will introduce the famous Film
'Battle of Algiers' that depicts the struggle he led against French colonialism.
On Saturday March 5th he will join Haifa Zangana & Denis Halliday to speak on
"End the Occupation of Iraq."

On Sunday Saturday March 6th he will speak at 3.30pm on "Democracy,
Resistance & Imperialism."

Denis Halliday
Denis Halliday is the former assistant secretary general of the United
Nations. He resigned as UN humanitarian co-ordinator in Iraq in protest
against sanctions. He has become one of the leading voices in Ireland and in
the United States opposing the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
He will speak on Saturday with Ben Bella on Iraq and later on the UN and the
Oil for Food programme.

Haifa Zangana
Haifa Zangana is an Iraqi writer and exile imprisoned under the Baathist
regime in the 1970's. She is a prominent figure in the British anti-war
movement and a leading writer on women's and cultural issues in Iraq and
the Middle East.

She will speak with Ahmed Ben Bella on Iraq and Democracy & Resistance.
She will join Irish poet Dave Lordan to talk about Poetry, Literature &
Resistance on Saturday night.
