Why, why does the separatist/terrorist Basque movement insist on hitching our tricolour to every sad parochial, backward and increasingly irrelevant event they hold. Particularly laughable since the constitiution will pass with flying colours here.

We have nothing to do with Basque provincial politics, why the fascination.

Colonial Power comes in takes land! Indigenous people want it back and are prepared to fight for it! Simple really! If you think about it-

How long before the Basques start decommissioning ?

Wouldnt take Sinn Feins advice if you want your freedom.

I can see a welcome convergence, at a EU level, between the likes of SF and the ERC, that is both logical and progressive (-if reformist politics are your bag), I can also see the value of keeping radical Basque nationalists on board, keeping a space open for their transition from militarist adventurist spectacularism into reformist politics (but sadly, as with SF, no return to street politics) - as SF and ERC have both done, but I have little time for the chauvinism of the Corsican NAZIonalists, especially given their increasing hostility to north Africans.

According to the title, it is the comite catalan of internacionalist solidarity, (CCSI) who organised the conference, not the Basques. get your facts straight before slinging mud.

and both are seen throughout the world the catalan flag above though has the star, which is used by independentists and is also seen everywhere, but if you wanted to have a "flag go" you could say, oh well why do we only see the catalan flag with a star on the posters next to the andys x, and welsh dragon and sardinian 4 blindfolds, and corse 1 blindfold all that ermine of britanny, and why indeed perque are we not seeing the star of galizia or the cross of faroes?
Its always amazed me that the "solidarity" flags the catalanders use are the ones they use, you'd think they'd make the association with other countires closer to their stage in autonomy, linguistic unity or survival or political philosophy, but every election / referendum out comes the breton flag sitting next to the tricolour and the basque.

Spanish and French security forces have confirmed that all the monks arrested yesterday for involvement in Basque seperatist terrorism have been released without charge.

The monks of the Benedictine order arrested included were 72 year old brother Marcel Echandi, who released at midnight has returned to the abbey of Notre Dame de Belloc, in the diocese of Urt, Euskal Herria (french bit) and Juan José Agirre, 75 years old, who was detained by the Guardia Civil in the convent of Lazkao (Guipúzcoa). Both monks were thought to have maintained links with Mikel Antza (ETA's number 1) who has with his wife (common law) been in detention in France since Oct. 3rd 2004.

This move to round up monks will it is thought further deepen the rift between the RC council of bishops in the spanish state who have consistently accused the Zapatero government of increasing secularisation.
And remind many older readers and basques of the "birth" of ETA in a seminary during the Franco dictatorship a very long time ago. Though the order of Benedectines (one of the oldest monastic orders) is not answerable to the council of bishops.
