Thursday 3rd February in Main Reception building, DFRC

Almost 2 years after the invasion of Iraq it is clear
that the US lied about weapons of mass destruction and
as a result over 100,000 Iraqi's are dead. 1,500 US
soldiers are also dead. The US now says they are
bringing democracy and freedom to Iraq. This is also
a lie. The elections, to take place on Sunday are a
sham. 4 out of Iraq's 18 provinces are not being
allowed to take part, over 70 political parties have
called for a boycott saying that elections held under
foreign occupation and organised by the occupying
forces alongside an installed puppet government are
illegitimate.

The US assault on Fallujah was the last straw for many
Iraqis where estimates suggest 3000 people were killed
including 500 children and 200000 civilians were
driven from their homes. In Ramadi, an embedded
journalist with the Economist magazine was told openly
by a US marine commander that they had an
indiscriminate shoot-to-kill policy against any Iraqi
vehicle that came within 50 yards of a US convoy. "If
anyone gets too close to us we fucking waste them.
It's a kind of a shame because it means we have kileed
a lot of innocent people" he told the reporter. The
reality of this was seen all to clearly last week when
US troops opened fire on a car killing the parents of
3 small children. It is this kind of brutality that is
the main cause of violence in Iraq. Insurgents are
clearly responding to the horror of the occupation and
NOT creating the problem as is often implied in the
main stream media.

The Irish Anti War Movement has planned a number of
events (see www.irishantiwar.org) over the coming
months to mark the second anniversary of the invasion
on March 19th. On the day itself there will be a
march in Dublin as part of a Global Day of Protest
against the Occupation and the Bush regime that is now
talking about Iran in the same way it was talking
about Iraq two years ago.

The Dundrum Ballinteer group will be meeting on
Thursday 3 February in the Main Reception building of
the DFRC to plan how to build for all of these events
in the local area.
