And Showing Acclaimed Documentary 'Outfoxed'

Thursday Next

The Waterford branch of the Irish Anti War Movement is to hold an anti-war vigil calling for an end to the illegal occupation of Iraq and for an end to the use of Shannon airport in facilitating the occupation.
The vigil will take place in John Roberts Square on Thursday 18th November at 6.00pm.

The IAWM is calling on everyone who is concerned about Ireland’s complicity in the bloody occupation of Iraq to join the vigil. Martin Cullen recently said the increasing number of US troops through Shannon (up to 1,000 a day) is good for business. This business has led to the death of 100,000 Iraqi citizens and the maiming, torture and dehumanising of 1,000s more. Join the vigil on Thursday 18th to let Ahern & Cullen know we do not want the US Military’s blood money. They need to know its time to go. US Military out of Iraq & Shannon now.

A study carried out by a team of public health experts from the United States and Iraq reported that 100,000 people have been killed in Iraq as a direct result of the US invasion and occupation, over half of those killed have been women & children and air strikes have been the primary cause of death. Fianna Fail has made Ireland complicit in the deaths of 100,000 Iraq’s. This is unacceptable to the movement and to the people of Ireland who have come out time and time again against the use of Shannon by the US Military. The income generated for the Government from this continued abuse of our neutrality amounts to nothing more than blood money.

The vigil will be immediately followed by a showing of the acclaimed documentary: ‘Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism’. The film will be shown at 7.00pm in the Tap Room, Ballybricken. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

‘Outfoxed’ examines media giant Rupert Murdoch's Fox News network. Interviews with past Fox correspondents and passionate journalists punctuate producer/director Robert Greenwald's examination of the Fair & Balanced network and its right-wing Republican ties. The film shows how Fox News and the extended Murdoch media empire operate as little more than a propaganda voice-piece for the American government and helped propagate the lies which were used to justify the invasion of Iraq.
