Organise! Info-Picket of Jurys Inn Belfast. 08-10-04.

Members of Organise! Belfast Local along with other anarchists and grassroots activists picketed Jurys Inn in Belfast today. The action was part of the ongoing campaign to close down the Janes Less Lethal Weapons conference which is due to take place at Jurys Berkley Court Hotel in Dublin on the 19th and 20th of October.

Placards drawing attention to the types of weapons that will be touted at the event and injuries caused by them and showing photos and giving details of people killed by 'less lethal' rubber and plastic bullets in Northern Ireland were displayed and leaflets distributed to passersby and customers alike. Many of those staying in the hotel came out to get leaflets from us and at least one couple, from Dublin, cancelled their booking with Jurys to stay else where.

Extensive interviews were carried out with protestors by Belfast's community television station Northern Visions Television. Mangement were invited by them to comment but they didn't. Suppose they just didn't know how to justify hosting an event like this.
