SIPTU National Executive election tomorrow. Calling Des Derwin supporters.

Vote Derwin Vote Change

"There's been a twenty-year project to take the fight out of the unions...It's time to put the fight back in!"

The election of 9 Dublin members to a new National Executive Council of SIPTU takes place tomorrow evening at Croke Park Conference Centre.

Every member used to have a vote in this election until it was taken away in 2001. Nevertheless the change gave the vote to each of the Regional Conference Delegates (770 in Dublin). I am asking delegates to vote on POLICIES and to give me your No. 1 vote. I am asking members who support my policies to ask delegates to vote for me.

From 5.30 p.m. tomorrow we will be leafleting and lobbying the delegates. Any assistance from SIPTU supporters would be greatly appreciated.

To those anonymous hecklers, claiming to be IWU supporters, who might wish to add their comradely comments to this posting: come along and debate with me 'in or out of SIPTU-ICTU' at the Irish Social Forum on Sunday 10th at 11.00 a.m. in the ATGWU Hall, Abbey Street, Dublin.

As a former SIPTU member I am glad I do not have to participate in the farce of electing people to powerless unrepresentative bodies attached to the Labour Party. And why should we participate in a debate? Might as well try to get picked as delegates to the PD conference.

The IWU will be putting forward their proposition that congress and the existing TU's are beyond reform.

Des will be (i think) explaining why he continues to work within SIPTU.

This is absolutely central to the existence of the IWU and the relationship of many people to the labour movement. The fact that a SIPTU member is debating with the IWU, and in another workshop on the same day an SWP member is debating with a WSM member, along with Dermot Conolly (ex SP) is a sign of the relevance of the Irish Social Forum.

IWU members comments are a sign of their own arrogance and blindness - nothing else.

A debate between the SWP, the WSM and an expelled member of another Trot sect!! Can hardly wait...........

Des you might enlighten us as to what actually happened in Croke Park yesterday. A report would be appreciated by IMC readers.
