This is the first time that the public private partnership has been extended to housing, with approx 150 city council houses, 70 affordable housing units and 350 private apartments in the plan.

RTE interviewer - "Do you think it'll be a better place to live?"

for them to trash the place again. The graffiti is going up already and lights in public areas are being smashed. Outdoor seating and the childrens play area have been battered.

According to Defend Council Housing [UK], rents are an average of 16% higher under RSLs [Registered Social Landlords], evictions 14% higher, and "service charges" are added to the bill. RSL boards are run as businesses, dominated by bankers and even more unaccountable than councils.

Tim O' Brien, Irish Times wrote-

Dublin City Council has decided to opt for a public-private partnership (PPP) model to rejuvenate St. Michaels Estate in Inchicore.

But the decision has been criticised by Nexus Research [non-profit org.], which evaluates the government's Community Development Programme.
"Whatever about the suitability of PPPs in building roads and bridges", the model was not effective for longer-term urban regeneration, said Brian Dillon of Nexus.

The flats were renovated in 1991 for a costly £5.5 million. They are to be demolished.

Many of the residents wished to have a front door and a garden.
