Panel Discussion on the Dangerous Living Film

The Amnesty International LGBT group in association with the Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival have organised a panel discussion to take place after the screening of the documentary film Dangerous Living in the Irish Film Institute on Saturday 31st July at 2.30pm.

The Amnesty International LGBT group in association with the Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival have organised a panel discussion to take place after the screening of the documentary film Dangerous Living in the Irish Film Institute on Saturday 31st July at 2.30pm.

The title of the discussion is The Representation of the LGBT Community in Film and the Arts and the Human Rights Impact. It will focus on how LGBT people are portrayed in the arts and whether the impact on human rights is positive or negative.

Dangerous Living

On 11 May 2001, 52 men in Cairo were arrested, tortured and imprisoned for simply gathering at a discothèque on the river Nile. The ‘Cairo 52’ story is the springboard for director Scagliotti's journey across the global South to interview gay and human rights activists from countries as diverse as Kenya, Thailand, Honduras, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Dangerous Living is, as the title of this beautifully lensed documentary underlines, a fact of life for those who express and advocate a sexual orientation different from heterosexuality. Detailing these highly personal and very moving stories, Dangerous Living bears witness to the many courageous men and women who risk their lives to be able to live with integrity and love. A truly inspirational film from the director of Before Stonewall and After Stonewall.

The Irish Section of Amnesty International has a vibrant and committed LGBT group working on identity-based human rights issues right across the world. The group meet on the first Thursday of every month at 6.30pm at Amnesty International, 48 Fleet St, Dublin 2.
