StopEsso - Stop Bush protest at Shannon

StopEsso Ireland sent a clear message to President Bush that the US Government must act now to tackle climate change instead of wrecking international agreements like the Kyoto Protocol in an effort to secure the future dirty business of their oil buddies, Esso.

The group hung a large banner over the motorway leading to Shannon Airport during the president's visit to Ireland. Esso (ExxonMobil in the US) was behind Bush’s decision to pull the US out of the Kyoto Protocol, the only international agreement to tackle climate change.

Esso, the world’s largest oil company, funds anti Kyoto lobbyists, promotes climate change sceptics and continues to deny that burning fossil fuels is the primary cause of global warming.

StopEsso Ireland are calling on Bush to act now to tackle the most urgent problem facing the world today, and put people and the environment above the interests of the oil majors.

StopEsso Ireland’s spokesperson, Will St. Leger said, “Bush is clearly more interested in securing his re-election than in taking any real international leadership in the fight against climate change. Instead of protecting the business interests of companies like Esso, he should be protecting the future of us all. If Bush and Esso choose to wreck the planet then we choose not to buy Esso.”
