Election regulations changed making it easier for immigrants to vote

The regulations covering what ID is valid for proof of identity while voting have been extended.

The amended regulations now include a Temporary Residence Certificate card (TRC card) and a Garda National Immigration Bureau card (GNIB card). as acceptable identification for the purpose of polling day



The regulations also add the TRC and GNIB cards to the list of photographic identification which is acceptable for the purpose of a person assenting to the nomination of a candidate at an election. An additional document – “travel document containing name and photograph” – has also been added to this list.
