A special meeting of Cooley Environmental and Health Group (CEHG) took place on Sunday (25 April 2004) morning in The Strand, Omeath.

Sean Crudden who chaired the meeting complimented the Secretary of CEHG, Archbishop Michael Desmond Hynes OMA PhD, on the way he so successfully organised and chaired the recent round-table discussion on cancer statistics. Thanks was also expressed to some of the local media outlets for the way they published the key conclusions of Dr Dennis G Pringle’s report “Cancer Morbidity and Mortality in Co Louth.” The meeting was satisfied that information was getting out to the public in a totally uncontroversial way. The meeting heard that Dr Pringle’s report is now available on the Web at http://www.may.ie/dpringle/cooley.shtml and can be downloaded from there by anyone who has the “Acrobat Reader” facility on their computer. It was decided that CEHG, although its funds were not large, would buy a small gift for Dr Pringle to thank him for finished work well done.

It was provisionally decided that the fifth annual Winter Workshop organised by CEHG would be held on the last Saturday in January 2005 on the theme “Organisation and Health.” Topics to be discussed in the Workshop could include:-

· Personality of Buildings

· Healthy Organisations

· Industrial Development and a Healthy Environment

· Agricultural Produce, Seafood and Health

· Transportation and Treatment

· Education and Health – The Points System.

Further suggestions about possible topics for the Workshop or suggestions about speakers people might like to hear would be welcome from any interested member of the public.

The next meeting of CEHG was fixed for Sunday 23 May 2004 starting at 11.30 a.m. in The Strand, Omeath. This is likely to be the final meeting of the season. Meetings will probably resume in mid September. All are welcome to attend.
