A weekend of American counter culture on film
Larry Harvey, founder of the unique arts gathering that is fuelling a social revolution, Burning Man, is coming to Ireland for the first time, over the May Day weekend in order to promote the Burning Man movement. Convergence, the festival dedicated to sustainability and cultural integration, is organising a weekend of films paying tribute to American counter culture and reactionary ideals to compliment the May Day weekend of anti-establishment activities. Friday 30th April, see's the premier of a new film that chronicles Woody Harrelson's voyage across California on a bio-fuelled bus 'Go Further'. The film will be introduced by Director Ron Mann in the Sugar Club at 7.30pm. In the same venue on Saturday, a new film that goes behind the scenes at Burning Man 'Burning Man: Beyond Black Rock' will be premiering and wil be introduced by the filmmakers at 7.30pm. Larry Harvey, on his first visit to Ireland will give a short talk before the film. On Sunday 2nd May, there is a free public screening of 'Dust Devils', the Irish film that explores the life and meaning of the Burning Man community as seen thru the eyes of Irish participants, in Temple Bar, Meeting House Sq, 8.30pm. Larry Harvey, will be present to give a short talk before this event also. Burning Man is a unique community arts event occuring annually in the Nevada Desert USA. The ethos that underlies it is one of support and tolerance for any kind of individual and communal expression. It is a totally non-commercial event, with neither sponsorship, nor money allowed a presence. The community ethos that drives it is spreading and inspiring Burning Man type events and communities worldwide. It is an integral part of a grass roots global social revolution.
