Jump To Comment: 1A quick update (and a bit of a rant) on where we're at with the campaign from a flu-y student that should be doing her essay..
-despite the fact that our posters are continuously removed from campus (all yesterdays posters are now gone GRRRRR)
-despite the fact that our own (supposedly Neutral!!) S.U. are telling students to "Boycott the Boycott" and have been quite hostile about the whole thing
-despite all the (high spirited) ground work it took to gather 1,200 (one fifth of the student body) signatures (a considerably larger proportion of the student body than UCD or Trinity need for a referendum as far as I know)
...the maynooth coke campaigners are struggling on for a referendum.
We're waiting to hear back from our returning officer who is checking names and students numbers.
As soon as we hear back that we can call for a referendum we intend on holding a debate. It looks like this will take place in a forthnight.
There have been rumours that our S.U. will debate with us. Following a meeting yesterday we decided that as our S.U. have clearly not abided to a neutral position we would have no problem facing them as our opposition in a debate.
Thanks to UCD, LASC and Labour Youth for their support.
And SHAME ON YOU to our LAZY S.U.
..will keep ya posted
