The Snake Bush Pursued by St P through Galway Streets

category galway | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Wednesday March 17, 2004 18:50author by Niall Farrell - Galway Alliance Against War

In the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Galway today, the Patron Saint banished the war criminal Bush from Ireland’s shores. That was the theme of the Galway Alliance Against War float. A snake with George Bush’s head was pursued through the streets of Galway by a peace loving St Patrick. And the crowd applauded in support of St Paddy.
Appropriately, in its statement for St Patrick’s Day the Galway peace group called “on St Patrick to return in June and banish from our shores the evil snake George W. Bush and all his deadly vipers that land daily in Shannon en route to kill in occupied Iraq.”

STATEMENT FROM THE GALWAY ALLIANCE AGAINST WAR FOR THE SAINT PATRICK’S DAY PARADE IN GALWAY – MARCH 17TH 2004

Last year at the St Patrick’s Day Parade the Galway Alliance Against War predicted that thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians would be killed in the event of a needless US & British invasion of Iraq. We have unfortunately been proven right.

Last year, we predicted that these people would be forgotten by the warmongers, written off as expendable – “collateral damage”. Again we have been proven right: There has been no day of mourning or even a minute silence for these poor victims of US and British state terrorism.

Last year, we predicted that this US-led war would be about oil. Again we have been proven right: The natural oil wealth of Iraq has been greedily divided among the wealthy supporters of George Bush and Dick Cheney.

This year, we call on St Patrick to return in June and banish from our shores the evil snake George W. Bush and all his deadly vipers that land daily in Shannon en route to kill in occupied Iraq.

Like last St Patrick’s Day the slogan of the Galway Alliance Against War remains both Irish and International: Give Peace A Chance – Tabhair Seans don tSíocháin.
